Mountain Biking

Ah ****. I hope scrub is open when I go next week then that's the fun red.
yeah its the best red. Detonator and Meehhh Line were still open. Detonator is pretty fun, but the head wind made it almost impossible to clear the jumps halfway down.

Black Powder was open and running good though the jumps at the top couldn't be jumped. The wind was so strong you were blown off track :p

Instead of opening a new thread, I might as well ask here... Looking at buying an MTB for casual rides, nothing crazy, is 600-700£ enough for a ok'ish 2nd hand hardtail? Any particular bikes to look for? Thanks

Casual rides or Casual trails?

If you're not doing any trails, I don't see why a carerra or whatever from halfords for £250-300 wouldn't suit you. Why spend big monies.

If you won't be doing anything but road rides get a cheapo road/hybrid but if you are doing offroad trails you get get a decent MTB easily for £6-700 second hand. If you want any specific recommendations just say.

Casual rides, it'll be more of a cardio and will use it for trips to the office.

The cycle lanes are so bad, I use to straighten the wheels on my roadie all the time...

I need to ease into it, I haven't cycled for 5+ years, once I'm in shape with better stamina I might look at something better suited for trails.

Got this last week - Lapierre Zesty 314. Well cared for example and my first foray into full sus bikes. Very pleased with it. Fitting a Brand X Ascend 2 dropper post to it later today as it didn't come with one. Can't wait to try the Zesty out on some local trails :)

Got out on the local trails with the Zesty for the first time on a full sus bike, quite surprised on how it felt compared to my Cube hardtail. Bit of tweaking required to rebound settings I think but overall I was impressed with how it rode. Climbs very well too.

Got the Ascend 2 dropper post and Rapidracer Enduroguards fitted earlier in the week too :)

I've been keeping my eyes open for some CODE RSC brakes and I've just spotted CRC and Wiggle have the front set for £125, cheapest I think I've seen - if anyone is interested. Annoyingly the rear set isn't anywhere near as discounted, so needing to look elsewhere for that.

I posted in the LED torch thread in GD but thought it might be worth posting in here too in case any one has thought of or done similar,

Can anyone offer any advice, I'm after a cheap LED light for mountain biking around the £30 mark and ideally available on Amazon as I have a voucher.
Understand I'm not going to get anything amazing for this price.
It need's to be as bright as possible with a battery life of at least 4 hours on max setting and rechargeable. I won't be using it on road it's only for occasional use in the woods etc.

There are loads of bike specific lights on amazon but most are for road use and not bright enough.
I found This One that seems to tick all the boxes and has decent reviews (though probably payed for?)

https://www.amazon.co.uk/VA-STFIRE-...I6IjIuMjcifQ==&sprefix=vastfire,aps,66&sr=8-5

Before I pull the trigger I wondered if I could get a better hand held torch, maybe something with a wide beam? I could make a bracket for it to fix to the bike but it would need to be water resistant.
cheers.

I have the bigger brother of this and it's too notch:

OLIGHT RN 400 Bike Lights 400 Lumens USB Rechargeable Bike Front Light IPX7 Waterproof LED Safety and Sensing Mountain Bicycle Headlights for Daily Commuting and Urban Riding https://amzn.eu/d/bqnd41z

Bang on your budget too

Defo go with something made for the job rather than Heath Robinson something together

Order a few, try and send back the ones you don't like / dont suit?

Hey, thanks for the suggestion.
Have you used it in woods or trails with no surrounding light? My only concern is 400 lumens won't be bright enough.

I've no problem Heath Robinson something if it gives me a better light, pretty sure I could make a better bracket than what is supplied with most of them ;)

No probs

I have, yes and.it works well, but as I say I have the bigger brother which is also brighter. The other option is something like :

Nestling® 5000Lm Bike Light Set, USB Rechargeable Bicycle Lights, 4 Lighting Modes,Waterproof Mountain Road Bike Lights ,Safety & Easy Mount LED Cycle Lights,USB Cycling Front Light & Rear Light https://amzn.eu/d/4ttaXwd

Which will be plenty bright enough but not as compact and simple solution due to the external pack / batteries

I have the three lamp version of that and it's like a second sun!

Thanks for the info, another one to look into :)
I'm sure I've seen the 3 lamp version before but can't seem to find it now.

Do you have the RN800? I see they do a few versions.

Cheers.

That will not be 5000 Lm

I have brighter. Got the Nestling 2400 light for my son. Pretty bright but not close to 1000lm light that I have. Recon its about 200-300lm. Good on flashing but would need another for full beam to see the ground. Depends where you ride.

Lol it has been used for middle if the night forest rides through to the dark hours during a 12 hour ride round the Cheshire ring - it's bright, very bright. Not quite at the same level as my 3800 lumen Tiny Monster, but not a million miles off :D
