Mountain Biking

Well first time i've tryed an oval ring, never even considered one before, always seen them more of a roady thing, we'll see tomorrow, heading up hamsterly after lunch for a quick blast.

Never even realised oval rings were a thing? Sounds like it would be really odd although I guess in practise you don't notice it as much as you'd think?

Which linkfail?

You gone and derped... linked a dropbox pic that's in a private folder?

Had an absolute nightmare the past 3 rides. Punctures everywhere! I've put 4 dents in my Mavic rear wheel and 2 in my rear Stans Flow rim.. :( Must have been running too little pressure. After a quick blast around Cwmcarn yesterday I was puncture free! (Had bought 4 patch kits and 2 spare tubes just incase :D) Was running above 40psi in the rear.

Ruined a 1 ride old Rubber Queen last week from a dented rim and either metal or rock straight through the side wall.. Sealant was doing anything to that! So i attempted to fix it :D

Yet to try it on a rim :D

The more I ride the Shan the more I love it... It's a superb bike!

Well took the Range out for its first proper ride today up Hamsterley, started off on the Black, up to the top down pikes teeth, cross the river up and over to the new sections down to the road, shortcut up to the top of transmission line/accelerator/nitrous, up the horrendous hill that runs up through Descend, section 13 finishing up on Special K and brain freeze.

Overwhelming sense of WOW why havnt i made the switch years ago?
Climbing ability of the trail bike and can still descend almost as well as a full on DH bike without all the sluggishness.
Thought i was gonna find it harder to climb with the 1x10 but i was pleseantly surprised to find it climbed with easy, very well mannered bike, point it downhill and it just lights up, i mean damn it felt like i had way more than 160mm, could have been fooled into thinking i had my downhill bike at times. Planted and surefooted when it needs to be yet light and floaty and controlled when it came to jumps, i was boosting jumps effortlessly that previously i'd struggled to have momentum to clear on other bikes, just a shear joy to ride! spent a fair bit of time trying to dial in the suspension, got the rear just as i want it, but i think i need to soften up the front end a bit, its a bit stiff, am i right in thinking another bottomless token will ramp it up more towards the end of the travel?

Really cant wait to get up the highlands and ride more now!

How'd you get to Transmission, Nitrous and Accelerator the short way?
Oh poo to stupid dropbox. Ha.

DT Swiss Spline2 E1700 - They're a little heavier than the 1500s, but they looked nicer and are a bit wider, too. I think.

The road at the bottom of nitrous, if you head along as if you were carrying on with the red, if you look to the right you will see a forest track curving up and right, follow that, you will come to a cross road junction, carry on straight up its bitch of a climb, keep going up until you reach a prominent right, take that turn and follow it up to the top of transmission.
I take that route all the time, the back half of the red is pretty dull, only a couple bits of single track, mostly forestry access roads.

Yeah, I made the mistake of riding around all that bit the weekend before the one just gone. Entirely not worth it. I don't know why they included it as part of the red, really.

Lovely Bird there Jono.

Quick update on the missing RS nut - Bird are sending me one out no problem. They mentioned because of the tightness involved this particular shock had been known to cause loosening - bit of Loctite 243 is required apparently.

That Bird is lovely. Saw one at Cwmcarn on the weekend (blue). What size is she Jono? And how tall are you and whats ur inside leg measurement if you don't mind? :)

'Course not.

She's a medium, I'm 5'9 and my inside leg measurement is 30" or less. Plenty of standover height and the 125mm dropper post is perfect for me.
