Mountain Biking

Sorry Knifey - I'm still recovering from my trip away!

Lovely looking track that! That's local to me and you ?

Yes mate, about 15 min drive from us.

Really cool track btw, looks so much fun!

For youtube links, don't put the whole URL in, just the number after the "="

Cheers cow, yea track was cool. Can't wait to try it when some of the bits dry out. No idea who built it, ill try get some videos of the other tracks up there before it gets all de-forrested :(

Starting at £4600, I'd say it'd have to be multiple people!

That video has just made me want to ruin my house deposit :(

Does anyone have a 4x4 and use a rear tyre bike rack? I don't have a tow bar, and not sure how safe the tyre rack is. I don't really care if it breaks the car, but I'd be highly upset if I lost my bike.

That dune is a stunning bike.

Has anyone been ridden the Trans Provence route before? The pinkbike photo summary yesterday has given me strong strong urges to go and explore southern France with my bike.

Really not sure what tyre to run at the back. At the moment i have high roller 2 front and back, front is 3c and rear is 60a, grip is awesome but not very fast rolling. I still want grip but i want to gain a bit more speed especially since the trails are a bit dryer, although this is north wales so they dont stay dry for long!!

There is so many choices i just have no idea!

My attitude is to just pedal harder and enjoy grip, but I don't know nuffink really. I hear the Schwalbe Rock Razor is a fast-rolling one with knobbly bits at the edge so you get plenty of grip when the bike's leaned over. Still, it sounds like it can be a bit of a handful in the wet.

Here, Pinkbike had something about this the other day - question 2. More or less exactly what you're asking. http://www.pinkbike.com/news/ask-pb-06-23-2015.html

FYI Maxxis are hard to get hold of just now, something about being in between distributors I think.

Been tempted by the Rock Razor for quite some time now, but its a lot of money to risk if i dont like it. would love a faster rolling rear but scared the RR would be a little bit too loose in the damp slick conditions our homeland is known for.

I'm out in Vancouver to take in BC Bike Race this year. The trip has been a bit of a stinker so far but hopefully things will pick up. The chap I was meant to do the event with had to pull out a fortnight ago due to a sudden illness in his close family.

Air Canada have managed to do the same thing they did the last time I flew with them and lose my sports equipment. Last time it was skis, this time it is my bike. It is meant to turn up later tonight. If it doesn't I am in real trouble. Luckily the ultra amazing race organisers and obsession bikes have agreed to sort me out with a loaner if needs be.

Today was registration day and the buzz was amazing. Even with separation anxiety from my bike the excitement was unreal. 600 people moving through a slick well oiled registration process. The bike candy is amazing too. It is 30 degrees out here and the humidity is really high in the forests so that is going to be an extra factor to manage air with 310km of singletrack and 8km of vertical across 7 days. Thankfully it does mean the trails are bone dry

Tomorrow is moving day which is when everything starts proper.

If anyone is interested I'll keep posting (subject to having the energy at the end of each day)

That sounds awesome, keep us updated. I'd be on edge if my bike had to go missing! Have the located it then? Delivering to you via courier?

I really want to go to France this year, but with no direct flights I have this terrifying feeling the same would happen to me with the connection.

Riding uphill in 30 degree weather :-/. I just drank 10 litres of water for ya homey.

30+ most days here too! Going to be a big change when I finally get my bike back!

I've just fitted a Continental X-King 2.2 to the back of my Capra. Oh. My. God.

It's even more of a rocket now! I thought it might have struggled on some of the wet rocks at Innerleithen last night, but nope - still seemed to have loads of grip, and rolled tons faster than the Trail King 2.4 which was on before.

Going to give it a bash at Glentress today and see how she flies! :D

Good news. Bike located and safely delivered at last minute. Air Canada are gash, never fly with them if you have luggage no matter how enticing the time or price. They have a policy of removing bags arbitrarily after regularly overbooking. The bike turning up late has put me in a bit of a position; I haven't been able to give it a once over and I had to get up super early to do a late registration. Strong words will be had...

Today is moving day. I'll add some more info once we have arrived at base camp. The buzz here is unreal. I am shocked at how many shaved legs I am seeing but I will be scaring those half men off with my uber hair back if they cause me any problems.

I am drinking like a fish. Litres and litres of water just sitting outside in the sun. Riding will be interesting. A couple of years ago, this chap had this to say after a hot day of riding. https://youtu.be/joxnWfM7F2Q
