Mountain Biking

So I was at Sherwood pines for a look at the Felt 2016 range which meant I got a shot of a few bikes.

Fat bikes.....lighter than they look, for Felt at least. Still fail to see why you'd ride one here on a proper trail.

Pedal assist E-Bikes - Good laugh, top out slower than I would be riding anyway which then feels crap and draggy(maybe just noisy and it's the weight you feel then). Good shove out of mid speed stuff. Obviously heavy but could see the point if you were older or had some sort of disability maybe.

Tried a full carbon Virtue 1, sort of trail 29er. Didn't realise it was a 29er when I grabbed it but explained why I couldn't really lay it down into corners. Ended up washing out going into a corner committed as ****. Probably more down to the sandy nature of the trail. (nice big scratch on the top tube :) )

Second day after a night out in Nottingham until 4am me and my boss decided we were bored of the other boss talking figures so went for two fast laps of the course. He was on a carbon edict 1 full sus xc bike and I was on a compulsion enduro yo bike.

I'm definitely not a 29er man, certainly not the virtue, straight away prefered the compulsion as it wanted to be ridden fast. Still prefered the Orbea rallon I had as I felt I could place it better, maybe the orbea had a shorter back end. Compulsion is due a new frame next year so hopefully they get the geometry updated to what it should be.

I'm 110% sold on 1 by after being able to ride it properly. Of all the bikes we used Felt seven 10(27.5" alloy xc hardtail), the edict, compulsion, nine carbon xc hardtail and the fat bikes not one dropped a chain.

Only thing i found was on the sram the 10 felt too hard sometimes and the 12 felt too easy, maybe I'm just a roady and used to 12-13-14-15 at the bottom end.

All in all it was a good two days and got to drink a **** load :)

Looking depressed with boss 1

Sounds like a good few days! Intending on buying a 29er? Only tried the one, but just couldn't get on with it at all - though probably down to it being some vodoo thing more than the wheel size.

Also hope brining out a cassette, probably going to cost more than a XT 11spd I bet. Although it will come in 35 different colours.

Nah I borrow a 29er we use as a hire bike from work and enjoy the speed on say a fire road but as soon as you try to lay them down I feel you fight against it.

I imagine more trail orientated 29er will ride a bit better due to geometry.

I was happy to see the seven 10 as it's a new model, used to top out at the seven 30 with a 10 speed double group and a recon level fork. The 10 is 1 x 11 and a lot nice fork but I went to take it, to keep up with the guy on the edict, but quick spin made me hate it.

XTR di2 with it's self shifting front mech was nice too, think I'd still prefer two shifters to keep some control.

Well just finished watching Un®eal!
Start to finish great film, production quality is amazing if not a little OTT, if you dont like Slow-mo roost shots it might not be for you but i thought it was brilliant all the way through, no filler at all, every segment had me hooked, the Whistler segment was so well done, didnt realise till about half way through that i was sitting there grinning at the screen!
Some parts as i say were a little over produced and a bit fake as we have come to expect from Anthill productions, but they have pulled it off very well, and you know what i dont care! it was brilliantly executed.

Absolutley mental how effortless semenuk makes that look. The drop in with his downhill rig was like it never happened. He's in a league of his own with precision and natural talent. I bet he puts more time in than you could imagine. Pays off though!

Well I hate to say it but it was inevitable, as soon as i read the first reports about marzocchi earlier this year i knew it would go this way... really hope someone picks it up out of the ashes and brings it back to life.

Havnt own a Marzocchi fork since the glory days of the late 90's early 00's, my last marzocchi forks were Shivers and the 02 Monster T, always liked them in later years but as much as i loved them there were always better options elsewhere, really thought they had turned a corner with the latest offerings, but i guess "too little too late", what can you do when your parent company arnt interested anymore...

That's a real shame as I'm contemplating a Meta V4 with 350CR forks. They review well and look a good entry level alternative to Pikes.

Although, as above their Twitter disagrees:
It's on the Internet so it must be true. #marzocchilives

I've read that someone is trying to close a deal. Late comer to the party maybe?

No worries Knifey - give me a shout when you're back and the Trek is in one piece!

Hopefully they do manage to sort something out. Can't imagine browsing forks and not having a 'zocchi option. Especially seen as their recent offering have been so good
