Moving to Canada for 12 months - IEC Working Holiday Visa

Thanks for the speedy replies guys.. that all makes sense.

@SS I lived in Vancouver/Whistler for 4 months or so when I went to Canada before uni and you are right it's awesome! Ideally I will be in Whistler for the winter season and then down to Van for the summer :) but let's see what happens!

Glad you enjoyed it as well. We've not been to Whistler yet, only as far as Squamish on a day trip. The city is great though, I'm amazed every time the sun is out and I'm walking around, looking down the streets and seeing mountains at the end is a sight I won't be getting tired of anytime soon.

This is the view down our street:

Very nice.. I loved stanley park soo much! When I was down there they had 'festival of light' basically a selected number of countries had their chance to do the most outstanding firework show and it was a different country each day for a week. I'm fairly sure it was on beginning of August (along with gay pride that was such a laugh).. keep an eye out for advertisements its going to start as the firework shows are most certainly very special :)

Also when you head to Whistler (I assume you would.. why wouldn't you :p) head to cow's ice cream.. I used to work there :D and also rent a big bouncy bike for a day and go down some of the trails :)

Colorado is really pretty!

~6 weeks left till I am in Toronto, though I am visiting an aunt North of Calgary at the end of the month!

Mugged right off. Application got rejected for 'do not hold a passport issued by the United Kingdom'. It's a passport issued by Jersey which makes me a British citizen same as any, not sure what the difference is with it being issued in the 'UK' orJersey. Our passports have started to be produced in and delivered from the UK this year as well.

How can I meet the requirements for being a British Citizen without my passport being issued by a UK authority... Surely they're the same thing?

Australia it is.

Have sent an email in today. Not sure I'll have much luck in a reversal, worth a shot though!

It's odd because I know of people locally who have applied, been accepted and gone. I can only think I must have filled out a field somewhere and specified Jersey when I should have used United Kingdom.

I compared passports with a colleague today and they're identical! It's confusing that I passed the CIC checks done by immigration, even more so when you consider that the police checks for Jersey are handled by the same department and staff that do checks for other UK countries, but got rejected by the IEC staff.

Will be a bit gutted if its turns out I can't go, but I was planning on Australia for next year, so all is not lost.

2014 Window!

Hello All,

Does anybody know when the 2014 Visa Window will be open?

I know I'm a bit early but just checking to see. I'm guessing it will be around Jan / Feb time next year?

Cheers
Dave

I did a SS and randomly emailed my Resume off to a job that I saw yesterday, you never know!

I am actually in Canada at the moment visiting my Great Aunt in Red Deer, Alberta, hopefully I can get back across the border tomorrow to finish my US trip before Toronto in a month!

and yes R22Pilot, Jan/Feb is a good bet, though Im going to start checking daily from December as it was a bit later this year due to the change to an online process, it might not face the same delay next year (though it also might as the servers got hammered this year!)

:)

How hard is this to do? I'm looking to get away, experience new things and all that stuff and this interested me, just seems like a lot of effort to maybe get told 'no'

Realistically what are the chances and how much does it cost (or what's the amount needed to enjoy it)

cheers.

It's easy, just apply online and wait a couple weeks for the decision, it costs £125 for the Visa (or £100 I forget...) but you get it back if you are decline, and the cost of a UK Police check which is £40-50 I think. It's pretty easy, but now its online the quota goes quickly, all 5500 went in ~10-12hours this year across the 3 releases - it'll probably open for next year anytime between Dec-Feb I would guess.

If you think a few forms online is effort though then you're potentially missing out on a great opportunity - assuming you are 18-30 and have no criminal record you should get in no problem.

Thanks for the reply mate.

Gonna go for it, as you say places go fast but i did a bit of reading and seems like an experience i would enjoy.

Would you say 2k is enough spending money? (along with what ever you make there)

It all depends how quickly you find work. My girlfriend only just started working today after being here for nearly 3 months, she turned a few jobs down knowing that I could support us (as I found work quickly), but if you don't have that luxury then you could find yourself running out of money very quickly.

£2k will get you in, definitely, and you will probably be fine, but the more you can bring the better. I brought more as I wanted us to do lots of fun things as well, we didn't want to just come here to work, we want to explore

Talking of exploring, we climbed a mountain yesterday on Bowen Island. 5 hours 40 minutes round trip, 16km, 2600 feet, and it nearly broke us!!!

I'll post pictures and a video we made later tonight for those interested (although the video is 25 minutes long!)

Cheers McDaniel!

Just to let everyone know. A family member was listening to the Radio here in Ireland today. There was a gentleman on talking about going to Canada next year himself and he was saying he got in touch with the Canadian Government about when the the 2014 Visa Window will be opening. Apparently it will be opening in October so I would keep an eye out from the end of September this year folks!
