Moving to Canada for 12 months - IEC Working Holiday Visa

I've got a 'Missed Delivery' today, so I'm hoping that it's my police certificate, I'll be picking it up in the morning. All other forms are completed, ready for a final check, and then will be sent off with my girlfriend's this weekend :)

BRING IT ON!!

Update
Quota: 5,350
Working Holiday places remaining: 4,496
Updated: 07/02/2012

Hey guys :)

I'm still a little confused about the visa :(

Ideally, I wanted to apply and get my visa before I commit and pay deposits for the courses im going to be doing and flights, so was thinking of applying for my Visa soon, hopefully getting it around the end of May.

I want to enter Canada April/May time next year, 2013.

Will this pose any problems?

No, as long as you enter Canada before 12 months from receiving your visa.

In other news, my wife got her visa through the other day. Means mine should come any day. :)

I lived in Canada on a working holiday visa in Whistler from September 09-10 and it was probably the best year of my life. Can't wait to get back and attempt to get sponsored.

Good to see people posting in here again :)

My girlfriend and I got our COR (confirmation of receipt) on the 9th March. We're hoping to hear whether we've been accepted or not in the next 2 weeks :D

Good luck guys, I'm sure you'll love it over there - especially those going to Western Canada.
I may be a bit biased though because in Canada, we have an East/West thing going on similar to the North/South thing here.

Dear Messiah Khan
Your application to study or work in Canada has been approved.
Your study or work permit will be issued to you upon arrival in Canada, subject to your compliance with the
requirements of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and its Regulations. It will allow you to study or
work in Canada for a temporary period only.

:)

Although due to a change in circumstances (Work ended up offering me a 7 month career break when I handed my notice in.), we may not be going ahead with Canada after our 6 months in America. Still leaves the option open for us though. :)

My girlfriend and I got accepted :D

We now need to make payment (£90) in the next 12 days, send one of the forms again via email, and then wait whilst our application is passed on to another department for final approval. We're very excited that things are moving again.

Kind of talking to myself now, but I figured I'd keep this thread up to date.

I GOT MY LETTER OF INTRODUCTION! WOOHOO!.

Which means I could move tomorrow if I wanted, but I can't, I need to save up and I have other commitments until December. Planning on moving in Feb/March next year.

YAY! :D

I'm keeping watch, so keep up the updates coming ;) :p

So you're only going for 12 months? Does that mean the 12 months starts whenever you leave for Canada? I'm currently saving and then I was going to apply - but if it starts when you leave, should I be getting the ball rolling now?

I am not 100% sure about the current years process but i got mine through last years and i had to get a signed letter from the bank which said i had a minimum of £2000 before i applied.

Having been in canada now for nearly 6 weeks ive spent approx £1300 of the £2000 i brought but goody for me i still had effectively 2 months of wages coming in from back home since ive been here so I havent really worried about the money.

You can save a fair bit of money on the travel if you dont mind flying with a few lesser comforts like no individual tvs on the plane and smaller seats by flying with Canadian Affair.

One thing i did notice when i got through customs though was that they never checked how much money i had with me or if i even had Medical Insurance but maybe that was because there was a guy getting deported and yelled at when we where going through

Yeah I had the same experience, I was already in Canada when my application came through, so I traveled to Buffalo as it was the nearest port of entry for me.

We crossed the border with my letter of acceptance, medical insurance documents, bank statement - EVERYTHING.. Spent a couple hours in the states then came back up the road.

All immigration looked at was my passport and my letter of acceptance.

So not that I'm condoning not buying insurance, nor is it advisable - in my case I didn't need it. In a months time I will be canceling my policy for the rebate and applying for OHIP. But it's always better to be safe than sorry, it could be just your luck you get an anal official.

Decided to bite the bullet and go this year if I can get a Visa! :)

Does anyone mind checking over all my paper work and stuff, and if someone wouldn't mind knocking up a quick check list for me, it'd be hugely appreciated!

E-mail in trust if you don't mind looking over things :)

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but my friend sent me this link recently that has a checklist for people getting visas for going to Canada. Good luck dude :) Let us know how you get on :) If I had the money, I'd be off like a shot :( :p

Cheers for the link but I think that's more for a permanent type of immigration, not the IEC holiday Visa, but will still come in useful! :)

Ah I haven't got the money, but something a mate said made me just go for it!

YOLO! You Only Live Once! :D

On the Family Information Form, at the top there is 4 tick boxes saying "Visitor. Worker. Student. Other"

Which box should I be ticking for the IEC working holiday visa, hope to working over there :)
