MPs try to overturn 'God can heal' ad ban

Reminds me of this:
http://www.momaroo.com/721577080/parents-believe-in-faith-healing-son-dieshow-far-do-you-go/

I can't fathom how stupid people are. There's been a few cases where "faith parents" have let their children die, because they believed "god" would cure them, instead of getting real medical help. To promote anything like this is ludicrous and even 1 child dying from such nonsense is 1 too many.

It should stay banned so other muppets don't get it into their heads that some supernatural being will cure their child's sickness.

I thought of that study on heart attack patients when I saw that fool's "Pray 4 Muamba T-shirt". Half of the patient's were prayed for and the other half weren't. The group that was prayed for actually had more complications than the group that wasn't prayed for. The whole thing is ridiculous and scientifically proven to be false. And even if it worked, what is the criteria God is working on? If someone doesn't pray for someone ill, then God will just let them suffer/die? Does it take a certain quantity to pray for someone before God will cure them? Otherwise, what is the point of telling whole churches/countries to pray for people to get well, or for God to help victims of disasters? Up to 10 people pray, sorry not enough, 12 pray and there you go, Miracle Heal ®.

sucks for all the people in Africa eh?

Come to these blokes on the streets of Bath and god will cure you. Starving, tortured, diseased or raped in Africa and there's not a care given it would seem.

Maybe God is like Cameron and only gives a stuff if you have given sufficiently large donations.

After a brief skim, I cannot believe that three of our elected leaders could have penned a letter crammed full of so much stupidity and credulity.

I almost thought that this line was a joke:

'You might be interested to know that I (Gary Streeter) received divine healing myself at a church meeting in 1983 on my right hand, which was in pain for many years. After prayer at that meeting, my hand was immediately free from pain and has been ever since. What does the ASA say about that?'

Asking for irrefutable scientific evidence from the other side, and then citing that in your defense... I'm at a loss.

I fully support the ban. There is no evidence at all to support the claim that 'God can heal' if you are referring to a religious god, and it is a potentially dangerous one.

It's in the Old Testament.

Basically, God and Satan have a bet. They end up smiting a man named Job who has done nothing wrong, mainly so that God can win an argument.

Show me where it says God himself does the smiting. And show me where it says how God causes disease and injury today.

Who made Satan?

who gave Satan permission to torture the man?

heck go read it and tell me if you think anyone involved in that tale comes out with the moral high ground.

Who made Satan?

Would you rather Satan had been made without free will? What about yourself?

Here's a question for you. If we could eliminate free will by implanting a chip in infants, and in turn remove completely eradicate crime and violence from the world, would you be for or against that?

I'm 99% sure you'd be against that, and so would everyone else. Satan was made with free will, and he choose his own course of action.

I'll concede that Satan tortured Job and indeed killed his family too. And yes, that's difficult to explain. But I think you'll agree that God cannot simply prevent people from doing bad things. He is not a puppet master; we are not puppets.
