MR2 Mk II. Do They Look Dated ?

I'd say that skill and judgement play more of a part than the car.

Travelling at >150MPH in a few hundred plus horsepower Impreza and making an error of judgement on the braking distance due to adverse conditions and in to the ditch you go.

Travelling at 30MPH round an icy bend and an error of judgement on the throttle lands you in another ditch.

Two very different cars, two very different speeds - both the same result. I'm sure 30MPH in a 2CV would have had the same result :)

I'd wait until you have a good few years of performance car driving under your belt, ive got loads of experience in nutty cars for my age, but it obviously wasnt enough.
while it will almost certainly mean nothing to you, posts like this get you nothing but respect from me concerning your attitude and approach to subjects like this...a shame more people don't look at things from your viewpoint IMHO.

i couldn't disagree with the above more strongly.more experience in any vehicle ups the ante in the ability stakes.
the handling characteristics will of course be totally different, but thay's not the sole cause of the problem.more experience will teach the driver to read the road and weather conditions.
take an adverse camber to quickly and you're in deep doo-doo in any car, the difference is if you're in something hardcore like an MR2 you're probably going to need more skill that you currently posess to get you out of it.
far better earn your wings in something safe and predictable.

I think the actual bodyshape is fairly timeless however there are certain aspects of the MR2 which need changing to bring the car up to date. Orange indicators on any car make it look dated in my opinion, as do tiny wheels (especially on a sports car).

Once you've addressed those two things I think it can hold it's head up with most modern machinery.

Have to agree, mine is a fairly late one and compared to the rev 1/2 n/a with all the black bits of trim looks much more up to date.
