Ms new console codenamed "phoenix"

As said before, the way the 360 has been has pretty mich guarunteed I'd buy one (And hopfully need only one, not a spare whilst the other is repaired) next generation MS console.
I hope to god Nintendo go with the "superwii" name, as thats awesome :D

I posted on here a couple of years ago that the 360's successor will be just a 'speed bumped' version of what we have now, say....

a 5ghz 6/8 core Power Pc CPU, 4GB unified Ram, and whatever ATI's top of the line GPU was in Q1/Q2 2010, so they could avoid the BC fiasco and ensure a smooth Live continuation.

Of course everyone took the xxxx, saying it they would never do that.

Christmas 2011 launch.....anyways, we'll see.

Cant some one fill me in on what the design flaw was?

Apparently the main issue is that the two heatsinks are bolted to the metal inner case which when it gets hot slowly malforms. Because the heatsinks are bolted to this bit of case it pulls the motherboard with it and causes solder connections to break under the gpu, the pictures I have seen show this as a fairly small bend but it obviously has severe consequences.

All of the 'diy' rrod solutions are based around moving the motherboard back into postion. The Xecuter method places solid pads on the ram in order straighten out the motherboard and the xclamp fix isolates the heatsinks from the metal case so that the motherboard no longer moves with the metal case.

Am i the only one that doesn't want these consoles to come too soon? I'm only just beginning to sink my teeth into the PS3 at the moment, i haven't even had time to think about getting a 360 to play some of its games. If they keep getting released too often it'll feel just like having to upgrade my PC or something, one of the main reasons i liked my PS2 was that it kept me entertained for 5 years before i needed to move on to the next one.

No your not the only one. I'm hoping that no one eveen thinks about releasing a new console before 2010 tbh. Also I don't see why manufacturers seem to like releasing their new ones at the same/similar times. I really think that if MS released the 'Pheonix' in 2010 then the PS4 could easily wait until about 2012 and would still sell well as long as it's cheap enough.

Without any information, and purely off the back of the 360, MS can be gaurenteed a purchase from me of their next console.

This.

I bought an Xbox when they first came out (ok me Mum and Dad did, I was 11 or something) and I thought it whooped the PS2, I was amazed playing Halo as it blew the PS2 away in terms of graphics. (and at the time, gameplay) First FPS I thought controlled well on a console, Goldeneye 64 was OK, but the controls on Halo were far better.

So after how good the Xbox was the 360 was a must buy for me, as will the next Microsoft console.

To me, the Xbox brand is now the "PS2", it's no longer the console you have on the side with your PS2.

Oh and I thought the Xbox was ******* fantastic before Xbox Live came out, jesus christ I've never had so much fun before as I did on Live playing Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six 3 in clan leagues....then they killed the competitive side of them games with crap sequels. (multiplayer wise)

Anyway, so yes, Xbox 720 or whatever will be a 100% buy, Sony PS4? Yeah I'll probably pick it up, but quite frankly they are lacking momentum in comparison to Microsoft.

If all 3 dont bring out 100% silent consoles next time around then I will be shocked. I think the next consoles will be aimed at "party play" and media playback/streaming. I dont expect them to be uber powerful either. I just bought a wii as it will be a family console. Graphics dont impress me anymore.

And PC gaming will rise to the fore once again as a phoenix from the ashes... Oh! How spooky.

Nah, the pc is the slow lumbering titan who keeps on strididing, whilst the consoles just play catch up every release cycle.

The next gen of consoles doesn't need to do much apart from improve on what they have done already. both the Xbox and PS3 have evolved massivly from when they were released so if they can keep the in generation changes up the inter-generation gap of the consoles will not be seen as such a big thing, Software wise anyway.

...

It's more like a game of leap-frog.

It took the PC a little while to catch up with the current generation of consoles.

Sorry mate, that simply isn't the case.

At least, not with the 360.
Youre joking right? I remember wanting a X360 at launch - then I saw the launch games on those lovely Samsung and all those jaggies...

I dont think Ive had issues with jaggies on aPC game for years now at the native resolutions X360 uses...

In its inception it had a good spec, by the time it was released PC gamers were already enjoying the next gen of GPUs...

ps3ud0

Its probably safe to say that the next xbox will be bulletproof. You don't think they are stupid enough to make the same mistake do you?

Im not saying it will be the same mistake - but yeah I think its highly likely there wont be enough stress testing of the whole unit together

I may well be wrong, but it was foreseeable that cooling would be a problem and yet they dealt with it very badly (denying it was even a problem for a very long time, and then eventually sorting out the warranty issue what 2 years or more after initial release)

The amount of blind faith in this thread is incredible (from both sides) - one thing is for certain is that the PS3 has at least 3 years left of being a premium console , even if the PS4 has been announced it wont be released before this time in 2011, more likely US/Japan early 2012

I'm not going to be drawn into an argument, but could you give me a few examples of PC games that were better, visuals-wise, than say Kameo?

You can play old games without jaggies, but that doesn't mean the graphics are better than a more modern game with them. There's far more to graphical detail than that.

TBF all console games will look better on a PC (enless the port is seriously bad) simply because of the riducliously high level of resolution and AA\AF filters that can be applied.
