MSI Afterburner Graphics Card Performance Booster

I could live with until something better come along.

And have card running overclocked 24/7? I don't think so. One of the best things about this card is the low idle power usage and noise. There’s no way I’m sacrificing that just to overclock my card.

But if no solution to this is found by the time the new nvidia card arrives (and it performs well of course) the HD 5870 will be on ebay.

Doesn't auto set it though.. So only use it when you need to.
I'm personaly waiting for the new riva tuner.
Me too. Just ran a few benches at 1000MHz core. Watch out for high memory speeds, the controller has ECC and doesn't throw up rendering errors or crashes like older cards. Any errors are corrected and retransmitted until everything is fine. Once it exceeds the stable clock frequency, the output will look fine but the performance will drop. So check the scaling.

The new rivatuner combined with the MSI overvolting will sort this..

Tbh.. you just overclock when you need to, the AMD GPU Clock doesn't keep the settings.

Cheers for the information.. I wondered why I didn't get any extra in 3DMark06.

Question, how'd I get the avatar to show like everyone else?

I don't really like the idea of having to manually overclock the card everytime I start a game and then disable it when I exit, call me crazy.

Hopefully the new verison of rivatuner will have a workaround for this.

It won't work with a Gainward 4850. The voltage setting and shader clock setting are greyed out, and changing the core or memory clocks causes the computer to crash.

Getting better, :p

I have also guys verifyed that both GPU voltages clock up on 5870 cards
the only way to do it is to first set the gpu clock to 880 on both then you can set the voltages and they will stick :)

if you try changeing the voltages first without changeing the clocks from 850 default one of your gpus will run at its default 3d voltage wile the other will be at what you set it at.

also the only limitations i see is that RBE needs to get updated so that we can edit the maximum clock limit then flash our 5870s and presto this tool will then be able to go past 900 core for now though amd gpu tool can only bypass the stock limit clock ccc gives.

stay tuned becuse once RBE is updated i will be working on the bios to unlock the memory and gpu limits.
then once that is done ATIpower play will be in use :) and the cards will then idle at there really low voltage under desktop.

Virus, I think you've missed what he said.. We can't put our clocks above 900/1300 on that MSI tool because we're using Sapphires, how are you doing it?

Didnt i just explain how im doing it.

im useing AMD GPU tool to set the clocks as it will by pass the 900 core limits of 5870 ati branded refrence cards, wich pritty much means every 5870 card as there all reference.

then im useing the MSI tool to change voltages and fan profiles ect ect.

MSI overclocking tool will only work to go over 900 core once RBE updates to support the cypress and cypress XT GPUs
once that happens we can override the AMD limit imposed by the bios.

Agh right. The fact your MSI tool says over 900/1300 is what confused people lol.

On a 4870, increaing the voltage, is it the VDDC Voltage I want to increase to make better overclocks on the core?

It's just a shame that its GUI is horrible. :p

Most Taiwanese hardware manufacturers are totally rubbish at making nice interfaces anyway, they're always over-the-top too much.
Haha. Evidently it is the law that they must always do a fully custom UI and have a non-rectangular window.
