MSI gtx 670 Power edition "none oc" edition owners thread

They seem very reliant on good air flow! My load temps have been reduced by almost 10 degrees from going to my old gigabyte aurora to this new Phantom 630 case!

Idle goes down to 27 degrees as well ( was 33/34 before)

Ok, i have been away for a few days, and didn't have a chance to look at this.

I checked both fans on the gpu are actually working, and removed my sound card as it was next to the gpu and might have interferred with the air flow.

I then returned everything to stock values, to see how high the temps would go....
I was runnig fur mark, to generate some gpu activity. After 2 secs the temps hit 51 degrees :(

I left it running for 10mins and it hit 80 degress, screenshot:

I then left the fan running at 87% to get the temps down, and at idle with a fan running at 87% the temps only went down to 36 degrees!

I then set the fan back to auto to see how high the temps would go when idling and it got as high as 40 degrees before coming back and settling at 37-38.

So any advice ocuk'ers!?

I did buy two of these cards, one for a friend, so i will pop his card in and see what difference there is.....

Put the second card i have into my PC and it's worse!!!

I know it's a hot day but come on!
I have a decent enough case NZXT Phantom with 3 case fans....

Anyone any idea?
Surely both cards can't be crap?

Mine idles at 30.c and max temp is just over 70.c running 1250/7000. At stock it barely goes over 65.c.

No idea why yours are running so hot are your case fans blowing in at the front and extracting at the rear ? Your temps are higher than my SLI temps....?

Thx moogleys, i have a reference 670 that i was planning to sli with one of these cards, and even it hits 80 degrees with fur mark.

I bought the case from the MM about a year ago, it's setup so that it sucks in at the back and blows out the top, but i think the top fan is actually setup wrong and is blowing air down!!!

But would it really make that much of a difference!?

I would not use furmark something like heaven valley gives a better result. Furmark just cooks cards.

With the open coolers venting some air into the case good airflow is a must for low temps. I always run more fans in than out. My setup is 3 x 140mm af140 fans blowing air in at the front and two af140 fans extracting at the rear and top.

I would say as both your cards are running hot it is your case airflow that needs sorting or even a new case especially for SLI as things heat up quite nicely then.

Get a front fan intaking air, a fan at rear expelling it and if u have some for top have them expel air there up and out too.

Seems to me the cards maybe fine but your case and ambient temps possibly as well are in need of a good lookin at.

Im gona run my card with gpuz render thing on and see what temps i get with it and fan speed etc. For comparison. Oh my case is a coolmaster 690 ii with a loud but strong intake fan (should get a quiet one really) two fans at top of case blowing air out and a antec h20 620 in push and pull pushing air out the back of the case. Cables are very tidy. Best airflow i can do in this atm i think. My 570 idled around 33 i think, my 670 idles around 35 but the 670 u gotta understand cant drop as low as my old 570 for some reason as the 570 could drop down to 50mhz idle but the 670 can only drop to about 350mhz when idle. :( Still 35 is about ok i think for a good airflow case for a 670 i think. If ppl get 30 at idle or lower then there rooms must be very cold where as my flat have very warm rooms which i get ppl that visit think i have the heating on which i never do and they complain man i wish my house was warm like this when theres are cold and need heating on lol.

Anyhow. While typing this i think the render things reached its peak at heat at about 61c.

Just for a test i would ask you to take the side of ur case off and see what temps are like that way. If theres a massive difference then to me it seems u need to try to get better cooling in ur case and maybe a tidy of cables and stuff if its a mess?

This is my 24/7 clock. I'm on one card now as my 2nd starting having issues and was returned. I find one at 1080p more than enough tbh. My memory goes higher but I see no gains so left it at this.

Thanks for the advice, I opened the case and it made no difference, still temps >75 degrees within 1 minute of running fur mark.
I also checked the airflow and it appears to be good.
It doesn't use all the fans it has available, but the airflow is correct as per this:

I am missing one of the top fans and the 240mm one.

What is the temp doing gpuz render test after 5 mins as furmark might make it hotter that it would normally ever get. Where as render test in gpuz is more of a everyday realistic max temp you might get. afaik. So yeah if u can let us know the temp after a few mins of gpuz render test and not furmark that would be nice.

Hmm. That is disappointing. Maybe throw ocuk a message in the customer section of the forums and explain to them with some proof i.e screenies of the card and ur airflow and case maybe too and see if they say they will swap it for another?

Long shot but u reckon it might be a case of driver corruption somewhere thats causing them to overheat or something. I doubt it a lot but u hear stories of a lot of stuff improving with a good driver clean and flush and re installing a good set of drivers like the 314.22s? Maybe give driversweeper (old version 2.10) a go and then the new driver cleaner DDU https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/550192/geforce-drivers/display-driver-uninstaller-ddu-v6-3/ which when i used that one i picked the 3rd option (clean drivers for putting new card in). Which helped remove a old detection of my old 570 from my system.

Couldnt hurt to give it ago i guess?

Thanks Skeeter, i have tested x2 msi power editions and a reference 670 and they are all the same!!!
I'll try the driver idea tonight.
