MSI gtx 670 Power edition "none oc" edition owners thread

@ Moogleys your swap GFX cards faster than a Pro's Knickers:D JOKE lol

which 680 have you gone for ?

I get bored easy. :)

I have a Zotac 4GB 680 on the way. It uses a reference board with exhaust so will work better when I shrink everything into a smaller case at some point in the future. (Again)

Tbh I doubt it will clock as well as this 670.

I would not bother with Haswell with a 4.6GHZ 2500k. I did exactly that and was a complete waste of money. No noticeable difference in games.

Cheaper than the other 680 msi.

Also Moogley, traitor. :p Should have stuck with the 670 club. :)

@Showboat, well if its with 2 diff 670s then yeah could be something in ur system causing them high temps like messed up os with drivers afterall. Would be great if it is as easy enough fix. Btw cant recall if we asked you but can you try them in a other system or a friends comp? Or maybe use a dual boot install thats fresh for a test perhaps? Use the 314.22 drivers maybe as there the stablest afaik for testing purposes at least.

Uninstalled all the drivers and caused a blue screen and boot failure in the process!!
Got it all backup and running, and still the same issues.
I've had this version of windows installed for nearly 4 years! So a re-install is probably way over due.
I'll be getting a new mobo and cpu in the next few weeks, so i'll hold off until then.

Damn, ur system sounds messed up showboat. Hope its ok. Boot failure tho sounds harsh, drivers shouldnt cause that as drivers only load and effect the system after post when win loads. Wonder tho, which methods did u do for uninstall and cleaning of drivers, device manager (no) uninstall through programs and features? Driver sweeper after and DDU after that in safe mode?

My 670 is happily running at 1325Mhz on the core at the moment. Not really sure I made the best decision buying a 680.

Oh well.

Pretty good there, what does the memory clock like on it? One of my wf's will do 1320mhz on the core, 7506 on memory. Iirc that was +130 and +700. The second one is an average clocker. +80 on the core +600 on memory on both in sli as thats all the weaker card can do.

Not really tried with the memory tbh. I did a heaven run with the core at 1350Mhz and the mem at 3500.

I'm just getting a bit of buyers remorse now so taking it out and going to use the onboard GPU for the evening so my 680 arriving tomorrow seems super fast... :)

LMAO!

Hmm moogley what way do you overclock these 670s? I know use afterburner or evga x precision tho i duno if that supports the tripple voltage thing from msi or not. Just thought might give mine a quick go see what it gets to but safely. Dont wana damage it :p

Last oc i did was on my 460 a few yrs back which got to 800 but used i think 780 for 24.7. So if u can help me oc this thing ill see how i far it can get since it might clock well being that the asci thingy in gpuz said its 92.5%.

I didnt run ddu in safe mode! Maybe that was an issue!
The blue screen change

Changed my boot order in the bios! So it wasn't booting off my ssd! Weird....
Rebuild inc soon!

I was using Precision X. I did not touch voltage just the power slider up to 114%.

Wtf. I did precision x i set it to power target 114% i clicked apply my boost was still 1149. I turn power target to 100 again and hit apply now my boost never goes past 914mhz. Whats happened wheres my normal non oc boost of 1149 gone when doing gpuz render test?

Edit - Raised it to 114% again and my normal 1149 is there again. Then again put it 100% and 914mhz. Strange and freaked me out a little there. I rebooted after setting X to 100% again and before reboot was 914mhz then after reboot back to normal 1149 boost with gpuz render test.

Eesh dont scare me like that. So from this little test it seems msi cards are by default 114% and putting it up to 114% in precision x does nothing but lowering it to 100% in precision x removes the default over power target thing it seems. Just glad with a reboot its running as normal again. Might remove precision x after that :p.

I did slide up the core to +54 to get 1200 ish or somit which didnt seem to crash the comp or affect the gpuz render test so i presume it worked but man without knowing more i aint touching that tool again.

Hmm ok so i did a bit of a oc and went straight to +85 so my core was 1000 and my boost was 1228.1mhz.

Did a run of heaven. Temps went to about 70-71 ish at the end.

(this was gona be showing stuff from heaven but bloomin prnt screen kept messing up this so ive ran gpuz render for 2 mins. Temps in heaven tho went to as i said above last i saw when i checked which was around the last one or two of the render cycles in heaven.

Duno if thats considered stable or not. I did notice a few lines of tearing during the test like without vsync ud see kinda thing? But i probably had that same thing happen when i did a heaven ran at stock settings before?

Moving the gpuz render window i do notice it wont move for a few secs till after i release the mouse click when dragging. After i defaulted to normal clocks it moves as fast as it used to. A problem with the clock i dunno? Anyhow thats my one and only go at ocing this for now. So hope ppl are happy with the results even tho im a bit dissapointed i didnt get a heaven score of 900 at the least with a massive +85 from stock (i think massive) to get 1228mhz boost. Didnt touch the memory as dont wana risk vram getting knackard as vrams a lot more touchy than the core.

I think the drivers held me back from a better score because in the heaven benchmark thread someone told me that 320.xx drivers do give a point boost but also push ur card more and more heat i think which there known for. So.. :/

Edit - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=24822926&postcount=1225

Comparing it to stock i.e boosts to 1149. Oc the core only hasnt really given much of a boost from my old score has it. few fps if that tho the min fps has gone up a lot from 7fps to about 18. Worth running 1228.1mhz 24.7, not bloody likely. :P

Update bench.

Same overclock and cpu clock as before. So stats still:

+52 on the core and +200 on the mem to get me

core - 1201mhz
mem - 1603

cpu still i5 3570k at 4ghz.
I only just updated the drivers from 314.22 to 326.80 with a clean install of drivers with driver sweeper and DDU.

Quite a marked improvment compared to 314.22 drivers. I did think i was been held back a lot by using old but considered rock solid 314.22 drivers. Just figured with the nvidia drivers thread ppl are liking the new beta drivers i thought id try em out.

Just got one of these, not quite the 161 bargain but just over 170 so still a good deal and got batman too so am happy with that, boosting automatically to 1136mhz which is better than my previous oc model, that wouldn't run at stock settings, had to underclock that by about 30mhz to get it stable. Asic score of 82.4
