Further thoughts, no doubt my 4K IPS was better on the desktop, it dealt with static kind of strategy games in SDR like EUIV, and Imperator better IMO (I think that "squarer" format is better suited to Grand Straegy games.) So far anyway. I haven't fiddled too mcuh with settings, there's some faffage getting used to dealing with 21:9 in some games, and getting to used shifting the taskbar over to 2nd monitor 27" IPS etc - that's definitely better for everyday surfing.
But, I didn't buy it for that, I bought it for gaming, and the resposnse time, ccolours, contrast, motion and clarity are next level. Oh and the gorgeous deep blacks
...one of the reasons I wanted to at least try OLED was I was tired of the glowly faded blacks at the edge of the panel in particular which just took me out of the game and I lost defintion and it was wishy washy, I did not like that. Most tech upgrades people rave about don't turn out to be all that great in the end, but this definitely is.
I do not miss the 4K defintion at all, as great as it is, and 4K is dope, 3440x1440p is not as good, OLED cannot match the brightness levels, but all the advantages of OLED make these downsides seem minor in comparison.
I thought I'll see how an old game like Ori and the Blind Forest looks and plays (no HDR support) thinking the 4K will be as good, maybe better, it was not at all, and that looked awesome at 4K, ditto the old Metro games ( Last light and Exodus) - nah far better on the OLED. HZD was much better and more frames.
I can't imagine what something like Ratchet and Clank is going to look like on this!
When I first got it up and up and running and looking at the dim image on the desktop I did think " My god what have I done?" - but you just need to know how to use it and how to set it up.
I can't overstate how much the response time and motion adds to your experience, and so far no stutter, the only things that stuttered were things like FFXIV bench, which stuttered and flickered in 4K (it's an old ass game and engine). The curve is great also, drwas you in to the game, and it's quite fun to see the wierd concave effect you get when you go back to your flat 2nd monitor
Anyone who is thinking about this monitor coming from IPS, it's amazing buy at £650 (now sadly that deal has gone)- just get it, or the Alienware, doesn't matter. For gaming OLED cannot be matched.
Funnily enough, as I sit a logn way away from my TV,which is also in the same room 50" inch Samsung QN90B (amazing TV), I wouldn't swap that for an OLED in my use case because of the brightness and not having "manage" that as well as the OLED monitor. I'm in total screen heaven.
9.5/10 - The cable management looks ugly, But I think I can tighten that up a bit. (Yeah and you definitely will not need the 240HZ upgrade either). The panel care thing pops up every now and again, it takes about 6 minutes, it's no bother just go and make a cup of tea.
