MSI MPG x870e Carbon WiFi Owners

Something I have found annoying with this mother board, if I put the computer to sleep and come back to it later on. It won't be long before it crashed and restarts, no blue screen or anything. Anybody else had this, maybe a fix in a new bios perhaps ?

Install the latest BIOS and critically, also install the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth drivers from the drivers page: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/MPG-X870E-CARBON-WIFI/support

You should not have any further crashes when resuming from sleep. This was a known issue, although often with a blue screen (driver power state failure).

Im on the latest bios and Wifi BT drivers and still crashing windows on Sleep. Works fine if I disable Wifi in the Bios. Any other tips? (Close to returning it after the CMOS/power drain issues with Wifi and BT)

I found with single sided nvme's (990 pro) the thermal pad on the bottom of the m2 heatsink is not making contact with the nvme drive and temps were higher then expected. MSI support told me to to leave on the plastic protector on the base plate which has a little rubber square attached. This elevates the drive so it makes contact with the heatsink's thermal pad. And as it's a single sided drive, there is no cooling required for the bottom of the drive. Pity this is mentioned NOWHERE in the manual and there is numerous threads on the MSI forums about M2 heatsinks not making contact.

Have since moved to Crucial T500 4TB M2's and they are double sided so peeled away the plastic protector and rubber pad from the base.
Seeing idle temps for 32 to 36 depending on M2 slot. The best cooling seems to come from M2_4. Never seen anything over mid 60's.

Had a T705 in M2_1 originally. Would run very hot. Would hit 80C in CrystalDiskMark and under normal usage saw mid 70's. No thanks.

I am using one of the PBO presets from the UEFI home screen...the one where it mentions Thermal Limit 85C. Running 7800X3D chip.
Any point to using advanced if not overclocking. Have memory set to EXPO1 preset. On latest bios.
Zero issues and system boots in seconds. Doesn't seem to do memory re-training and everything on default settings.

I tried the new bios 7E49v1A23 with M-Flash and ended up in a boot loop where I couldn't even get back into the bios to try again. Flashed the bios to a different USB drive and tried again with bios flashback but same issue.

Had to run flashback again with the previous 7E49v1A21 bios to be able to actually use the machine again so probably best to hold off on trying the new one.

The same. I reported it in MSI gaming motherboard forums and the devs reprod it. So a fix is incoming.

I was able to get back into bios by powering off and on and hitting del key. Then I loaded mflash. But after restart went into loop again. i had to piwer off and on and hit del one more time for mflash to load. Probably should have done bios flashback instead

All is good now. Back at A21. Had one side effect after reflashing - my Seasonic psu went to 100% fan speed but reboot sorted it. Those with raid had to do a windows re-ibstall. Lots seeing issues.

You think the devs would test it properly before release.

Sorry to hear about the 'boot loop' issues: I have had no problems with the same bios, and yet, my setup is markedly similar to the one posted on the MSi forums!

That said, I have never been able to 'wake up' from sleep, or successfully restart with powering on/of with this mobo

Just a friendly heads-up for anyone potentially dealing with this;

Ever since I upgraded to this board and a 9800X3D, I've been dealing with some mild and very sporadic audio crackling / hitching with my Roland Bridge Cast. Thought it was the old AM4/AM5 issue rearing its ugly head but disabling USB suspends and everything else I could find, nothing helped. Plugged in an old AudioQuest DragonFly USB DAC and the problem was turbocharged. Massive crackling and pauses whilst playing the Foundation demo (this game really exposed the issue, for some reason). Found an old USB Soundcard adapter, tiny little thing and plugged it into the front USB connector and... It was perfect, audio was creamy smooth, hmm.

Connected the AudioQuest into the front USB as well, again, perfect. Bridge Cast as well? Yup, not a single problem.

So, possibly an issue only on my end but seems some audio devices / USB DACs don't like those 10G and 40G ports, which is everything on the back.

EDIT: After some more testing. Seems the Bridge Cast doesn't play well with any ports on the Carbon, front or back. So it doesn't like that for some reason.

Thanks for reporting this, probably won't update the top post with this version, even with a warning about potential boot loop issues I think it's safer to wait...

Looks like they quietly replaced the A23 bios with A24 on the site, with no new date or notes. Most likely to fix the boot loop issue.

EDIT: Heh, I swear I'm being gaslit by MSI. I just saw the A24 on the official site and now I see A23 again. A24 is available from here though https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threads/mpg-x870e-carbon-wifi-beta-bios.406994/
I bought this board yesterday. Got the A23 bios installed last night and got Windows and everything else sorted. Played a wee bit of iRacing earlier (which seen good gains particularly in framerate stability over my old 12700k) and then attempted a restart so that I could boot into the BIOS and see if my RAM was running at 6000. Upon the restart (before I got to go into the BIOS to check) the damn computer got stuck in an endless boot loop. I could not get it to boot. I ended up coming across this very thread where a commenter said that they had a similar issue.

I followed the suggestion of flashing back to an older BIOS version. A22 wasn't available on the support page but A21 was so I thankfully flashed that without issue. PC is now back up and running.

I've just bought a MAG X870E TOMAHAWK WIFI but I notice that this motherboard also has the two 8 pin connectors at the top of the mobo above the CPU.

Do we have to plug in both or is one sufficient?

Does this board have the EZ Clip too? I can not get the little screw to grab the M2 properly. I've tried everything, pressing the NVME, it just remains angled like this. Not sure how to go around fixing that one.

Check the box mate, my MSI board had some spares in a little bag I believe. I'm using an MSI Z790 Carbon and the bag is labelled "M2 Locker"

Made an attempt, swapped it around, but it still would not budge back in its proper position after use. Tried pressing around the screw too, but that's just the furthest it will actually go with it.

Edit: Like, I hear a click, it'll click around the M2. But the screw doesnt move back, and I am pretty sure its also not really pressed right into the thermal pad below yet. Theres' some clearance underneath.
Edit2: Nvm I just had to press the screw back towards the nvme side, I am a coward. Thanks for the help

So the initial Corsair 6000 CL30 RAM I bought wasn't on the motherboards compatibility list but I thought it would work. Turn out that this motherboard (mine in particular) didn't like it much. So ordered some Kingston Fury "Beast" 6000 CL30 from OCUK and it loaded on first boot and each one since without issue (touches wood). The PC would "relearn" the Corsair stuff on nearly every boot and wouldn't always load the 6000 speed.
