MSI MPG x870e Carbon WiFi Owners

Hi all, I am having an issue with this board. Often, when my system wakes from sleep I get a crash (blue screen). This only happens when the Wi-Fi is enabled in the BIOS though. Also, sometimes when I boot into windows the wifi adapter does not show in device manager even though it's enabled, other times it does show and then disappears. I suspect there is an issue here. I am running the latest BIOS and drivers and I have both power connectors hooked up. If I disable wifi in BIOS I have no issues. Has anyone else noticed this issue?

UPDATE: Seems to be a known issue: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threads/no-wi-fi-mpg-x870e-carbon-wifi.404670/

Would be interested to hear if anyone else if having this problem.

I've been getting BSOD when resuming from sleep on a Gigabyte X870E Aorus Pro. It doesn't happen every time but it's often enough to be annoying. I updated to the latest Qualcomm drivers from the MSI site (Gigabyte ones are an older release) and haven't had one recently....but need to do more testing. There has also been issues with monitoring software like hwinfo causing BSOD if you shutdown/sleep with them running. Asus released a BIOS update recently with a fix for this.

I haven't experienced any issues with the WiFi card disappearing, but my external USB DAC sometimes goes to sleep and I have to unplug it and replug it in again to get it working.

My issue is I did a fresh Windows install along with upgrading to this board, so I've no idea if the board is causing the problem or it's Windows 11 24H2 being weird, as I was on 23H2 beforehand.

I have this board arriving this week. I've a 7800x3d now but will eventually switch to a 9800x3d.

What memory kits are people running?

32gb or 64gb. Thank you.

Trident Z5 Neo RGB - 6000 - CAS 30. 2x32Gb. Running EXPO and no issues so far, don't plan to overclock so went with the recommended.
Same kit here, enabled expo no probs, ran some stability tests at expo settings, all passed. Started overclocking it but really was more for the knowledge of how fast I could get this kit.

I have 6200/CL30 and 6400/CL30 profiles both with 2200 FCLK, but there's no perceivable difference outside of synthetic benchmarks. So I'm just running it on the kits expo now :)

Just noticed my WiFi adapter had disappeared from Windows, shutdown the PC, flipped the PSU switch to off and drained the mobo by using power switch while PSU is off. Re-appeared on boot.

Yeah I've just rebooted to have a quick look. Gameboost off, PBO still on. So I'm guessing that's been changed with the newer beta BIOS you're using.

I noticed that your core voltage is quite high in Bios. Similar to mine. Any idea why? Usually when I see screens from the bios of x870e carbon + 9800x3d vcore in bios is around 1.05-1.15

I'm not sure to be honest. It idles in windows at around 1.04v and peaks at around 1.29v whenever it hits 5.4GHz boost clock.

This is the issue. You may also find that your Bluetooth disappears as they are on the same module. I also found that if the computer goes to sleep and resumes you can intermittently get a BSOD (driver power state failure) shortly afterwards.

I had a search on the MSI forums and found an unpublished beta BIOS linked by one of the admins (ver. 1B) and it fully fixes the issue. WiFi and Bluetooth never disappear and there is no blue screen when waking from sleep. I have also subsequently installed the linked ver. 1D beta BIOS posted by another member on this thread and can confirm that this later version also incorporates the fix. So I imagine the fix will be officially rolled into the next published BIOS.

The first thing I did when I got this board last week was to update to the latest published BIOS, so I am not sure if this was a standing issue or one that was introduced later on. Anyhow, it’s great that it’s fixed as this is a fantastic board.

This is the link to the 1B BIOS:

The 1D BIOS is linked here:

As said above, both fix the issue. I am running 1D now.

I've added the known issues reported in this thread to the top post, will try and remember to update them as and when we find they're fixed in BIOS versions

let me know if I've missed anything or got the details wrong

I'm up and running with 1G, no issues. Happy to report the disappearing Wi-Fi/Bluetooth issue remains fixed.

I think I may have spoken too soon! I am now not able to edit sys fan profiles in the BIOS Hardware Monitor. Clicking into voltage boxes to edit a value results in a full system freeze. I did a CMOS reset too, and the problem still remains. I have just flashed back to 1D and the problem has now gone and I can edit ok again. I have opened a ticket with MSI support and they are investigating. Is anyone else having this issue on the latest 1G BIOS?

EDIT: The temp and voltage curve for the sys fans can still be edited by dragging the points on the graphs. However, attempting to manually type voltages into the tabular fields results in the freezing on the 1G BIOS.

I had to re input windows pin, then I couldn’t do my work stuff on 365 or Teams as account errors, had to delete work account and re register etc. My fans are using windows software, will check it’s still working as before.

Yes, I have also noticed that I have had to reset my Windows PIN after every BIOS update. Your software fan control should be unaffected. The issue is only with editing the fan profiles saved in the Hardware Monitor section of the BIOS.

Anyway, hoping MSI will come back with a fix, in meantime i'm back on 1D. I'll update on here when I hear back from MSI.

I just read on the MSI forum about users on a different 870 board having similar issues, I'll pass on 1A1G for now since I was just going to update to try some more overclocking.

Thought I might enter the fray. I've also just put together this board and ryzen 7 9800X3d but have also been trying to get my wifi working on linux. Its a fresh linux install on a fresh new ssd. Everything else seems to work after a few hicups in the bios except just for my wifi. I flashed the previous latest bios 1A1A yesterday and today have flashed 1A1G where I too get a freeze on editing voltages of fans. both bioses are not having BSODs at wake and bluetooth has been working with my phone. But I've never been able to get the wifi working after trying many work arounds mentioned here and on redit. clearing CMOS didnt work. Turning off at psu and draining battery didnt work. The only other strange issue was RAM (Kingston fury beast 2x32gb) not being found a couple of times after clearing CMOS after setting them to 6000. This is being typed out in functioning linux with a CAT cable to the router. Along with core temps, this board is starting to look like a bit of a lemon now. I'll ask for msi for immediate resolution to the issue as I need to work on the computer.

Just checking that you also added power to the 8 pin connector at the bottom of the board? It provides power to the wifi/bluetooth module

yeah I connected that one. I've also put in a support ticket to msi after playing around with audio and wifi settings. eventually bluetooth turned back on but still no bueno for the wifi.
Now im doing a clean install of windows 11 on another ssd loaded in the 4th m.2 slot to see if I can replicate the issue just to rule out any funny driver issues with linux.

I haven't had a chance to buy any more fans yet, the stock installed ones on my corsair case aren't operating. but I intend to have all my fans PWM instead of voltage controlled so the voltage issue shouldn't affect me.
In the meantime Ive confirmed at least to myself that the wifi issue might just be a qualcomm driver issue in Zorin Linux that was not able to be updated preventing my wifi from working there.
Inadvertently I've now successfully got a dual linux/windows boot going and both load up successfully. I can get wifi in windows 11 but not in linux. Bluetooth is fine on both.
Now I'm not sure if it just happens to be working for me on the 1A1G bios released yesterday or if it has something to do with syncing my existing windows 10 account from my old computer and syncing all files and settings over to windows 11 on the new computer. I suppose I'll continue with windows 11 and periodically check for drivers for linux.
