I guess it's part of the "They were £180 but hey look they're now only £xx" marketing strategy. I just wonder how many people pre-ordered them at the full price un-aware of the imminent 55% off offer..

OcUK are doing 100% the right thing in not posting the full price.

There is a regulation that requires 'sale' items to have been on sale at the higher price for 28 days continuously in the previous 6 months.

1.2.2 In any comparison with your own previous price—

(a) the previous price should be the last price at which the product was available to consumers in the previous 6 months unless the situation covered by paragraph 1.2.8 below applies;

(b) the product should have been available to consumers at that price for at least 28 consecutive days in the previous 6 months; and

(c) the previous price should have applied (as above) for that period at the same outlet where the reduced price is now being offered.

So technically, any store currently advertising them at full price CANNOT now sell them at the discounted price as that would be a wilful breach of the regulations. Naughty.

What MSI promised was an Introductory discount;

1.3 Introductory offers, after-sale or after-promotion prices

Introductory Offers
1.3.1 Do not call a promotion an introductory offer unless you intend to continue to offer the same product for sale at the same outlet after the offer period is over and to do so at a higher price.

1.3.2 Do not allow an offer to run on so long that it becomes misleading to describe it as an introductory or other special offer. What is a reasonable period will depend on the circumstances (but, depending on the shelf-life of the product, it is likely to be a matter of weeks, not months). An offer is unlikely to be misleading if you state the date the offer will end and keep to it. If you then extend the offer period, make it clear that you have done so.

Quoting a future price
1.3.3 If you indicate an after-sale or after-promotion price, do so only if you are certain that, subject only to circumstances beyond your control, you will continue to offer identical products at that price for at least 28 days in the 3 months after the end of the offer period or after the offer stocks run out.

1.3.4 If you decide to quote a future price, write what you mean in full. Do not use initials to describe it (eg "ASP", "APP"). The description should be clearly and prominently displayed, with the price indication.

If other stores have them listed at full price then they'll have to have a chat with their local TSO in my opinion.

Indeed. But given that the new rumour is that each store has 3-10 boards at the discounted rate (the one I've seen has 3 GD80's in stock) then you can see why they'll be wanting to establish the pricing structure sooner rather than later.

Yes, but it looks like they run well hot while doing it. In the other thread with the i750 the test system had a 480mm radiator on teh water cooling and it was loading out in the high 60's celcius.

On an air cooler that's going to be substantially higher, especially after some time.

hhmm that is quite high, but then you dont HAVE to use a i5 on these boards do you ? i spose i spose i could pair it with a decent i7 cpu once the prices come down alittle ?

Ive no plan to use this board straight away, its part of an upgrade that will probably take till xmas but thought id buy this mobo now as the first step in that upgrade

The i7xx and i8xx series are S1156 whereas the older i9xx series are S1366.

An i920 with an ASUS P6T and 6Gb of Viper 1600MHz RAM is the same price as an i860 with an ASUS P55 Deluxe and 4Gb of slower G.SKill RAM.

Unless you're buying the cheapest stuff possible, it makes no sense to go P55 at the moment in my view.
