MSI to offer 55% launch-day discount on P55 motherboards

Am fairly certain P55 is for socket 1166, never really understood the point in it, i7/X58 is fairly well priced these days.

P55 is for socket 1156. It was made to make the gap between Core 2 Duo/Quad and i7 (X58) smaller. The MSI rep even said that i5 still dosen't bridge the gap, and there is still a huge gap between i5 and i7 (X58).
I really don't see the point in going i5, especially now it'd definate that i9 will be released on the 1336 socket.

Bah, knew 1166 looked wrong.

I want to see some new X58 boards myself, I mean, how long has that R2E been the top board for asus, a year? Need to move on :/

An i5 would be easily suitable for people who are looking to upgrade now and don't have the money for an i7 system.

It will last the next few years and by that time you will need to upgrade anyway and there will be plenty of new toys better than i7.

Yea, I read this a few hours ago on another site. Tempted to get one just to mess around with, at that price I could sell it on in a month or 2 and probably still make a profit lol

Theyre limited to 1 per person though, so unless you go round all the different stores you can only have the one

The difference in price in marginal and will save you money in the long term.
The "toys" like i9 will also be released on the X58 chipset. So basically, you're going to buy a P55 mobo + i5 CPU+ Dual channel DDR3, then in a year or two buy a X58+ i9 CPU+ Triple channel DDR3. Why not just get the second now and save money in the long term?

Now hopefully this MSI marketing exercise might spark Asus & Gigabyte to give 55% of their P55 motherboards...

Nice to dream anyway! :D

Hey, good deal! All you who are saying you'll get one "to sell on" or "to mess around with" or "for the hell of it": leave one for me -- I actually want to use it as the basis of my new platform. :p

Lol, I would get one for daily use but I have full water cooling blocks for my mobo and it would be annoying having to mess round with new fittings and blocks etc. I'm gonna try and get one, if i manage and its amazing then I'll replace my current setup... If theres no real gain I'll just sell it on again probably :)
