MSI to offer 55% launch-day discount on P55 motherboards

Well...I said I wasn't going to build an i5 based machine for the fun of it...but with MSI possibly trying to tempt me back in buying their boards again (I still have a K7N2-ILSR Delta as my FTP lol), I might just take the plunge...unless of course ASUS do something similar :D

How good is MSI's Warranty service? I read somewhere that they get shipped to Poland for RMA, is that correct?

Well in the article it says

As always, UK-based *****.community discussion forum members will benefit from the ****2***** Free Shipping initiative, which will save you a further few pounds plus also top-notch, priority customer service and technical support backed up by the ****care@***** forum.

If overclockers have the same deal, as they say. then I doubt you have to send the board to Polan. Plus your right say the first years warranty service is with the retailer. It has nothinh to do with you if they need to post the board.

Well it's like with Asus, they have a UK base but they dont test the boards or repair them it's Taiwan! madness lol.

And if the first year is with the retailor they can still let it go 28 days+ & they wont just replace it you will have to chase them, thats why I asked as with Gigabyte it only takes about 7 days MAX.

Wow this is brilliant news, definitely going to try grab one of these.
Im surprised at the RRP of these boards though, GD80 for £189? Thats the pricing of a good x58 board, and with all the talk of the i5's price being only around £40 cheaper then i7, i don't see why not go i7 if you don't grab one of these boards with 55% off.

Im guessing save 55% on the board too pay an extra 30% more on the CPU than the rest of the world being that we always get screwed in this country and are always charged a premium on new products unlike the rest of the world until that item becomes manistream.

:D :p

I'm must admit, I'm having the same dilemma. Even if the price difference is £100 overall, that's still close to being insignificant (at least for me) in the context of my all-new build.

In other words: Would I pay £100 more for the performance benefit of i7? Yeah, probably (considering I'll most likely keep my new build for 4-5 years).

Looks like the 1156 i7 860 is faster than the 1366 i7 920.

MSI claim a 20% boost in speed over the Turbo Boost on pressing one button on the MB. That mean the 860 should hit 4.15Ghz with basic conservative overclocking.

Bah, knew 1166 looked wrong.

I want to see some new X58 boards myself, I mean, how long has that R2E been the top board for asus, a year? Need to move on :/

Have you checked the Asus range in the previous 6 months

P6T7 Supercomputer?

Lots of new and better Asus boards out over the Rampage..

back on topic, the MSI deal does look very good if it does happen. Wouldn't mind picking a board up at the price and buying the other bits at another time!

I was thinking the same, get the main board with the discount now and then getting the other parts as and when. Worst case you decide to go a diffeent route and flog the discounted boards on for a profit. I tell you what though, people saying AMD will be in trouble when i5 arrives, with P55 M/B's at these prices £164 and £189 the i5 platform is priced well above AMD, I don't get it ?.
At this cost the i5 would have to outperform the P2 965, or the cost /performance ratio will still be heavily in AMD's favour.

LOL - according to six-stars they are going to on sale at 4 places, including OcUK and it will be limited to 1 per customer.

Now, I'm betting that there will be plenty around and the price won't go back up afterwards. And there could be loads of folks with 'stock' they can't shift.

Now that would be funny.
