MSI to offer 55% launch-day discount on P55 motherboards

This is what annoys me people buy them all up blatently to try and make a profit leaving none behind for the people who actually want to use it. No doubt the same thing happened when Win7 was on pre order for £50

I do hope there will be a system in place so you can only order one per person.

sense of humour overload.

FWIW I have two machines to overhaul this side of xmas. Was going to use fast c2d but a saving like this might make the i5 feasible.

oh and i missed the win 7 and ended up pre ordering at £80 because of ppl buying to sell up. Poop happens.

I wasnt having a pop at you personally, but yes your right im a miserable so and so today :p

fair enough, it's a pretty miserable day n all.

i'm a little touchy today - like a twit I managed to pop a nail through an internal gas pipe whilst routing cat5e upstairs - so quoting my post specifically might make me think it was a little personal... :p

Does anyone know which is the MSi board with the Lucidhydra chip? That will be the one to get if it 55% off.

It's called 'The Big Bang' I believe and I doubt it will be 55% off.

What is that? If it's something good, presumably, it'll be on the GD80!

Basically it will allow the use of both ATi and NVidia cards on the same motherboard . It won't be on the GD80 I think.

Its a chip made by an israeli chip manufacture that allows the use of both ati and nvida gfx cards to be used at the same time.

From everything i have read about it there is only 2 Motherboards that has this chip at the moment and its the Msi P55 "The Big Bang", weather or not this actual motherboard hits retail is anybodies guess, its only been sent to a select few people worldwide for testing and the like.

And also here on Intels X58 Smackover 2 motherboard.

Again as you read stuff its still all speculation, and untill these boards hit retail in numbers then no one can really say.

Might snap one of these up. Buying a mobo on launch day isn't something I'd usually do - teething problems, immature BIOSes, etc. - but I might just take the chance. Core i7 860 is going to be the sweet spot here.

Me personally, im getting neither, gonna wait till summer next year to see where things stand, might even just wait for the 32mn ones.

I don't like getting things when there first out so to speak, like it to mature abit first, but im sure we shall see a few on here getting a good thrashing soonish.

Nooo, don't say that. I normally like to wait a little as well, but with an offer of 55%, it's hard to turn down. Having said that, you've got me thinking about waiting now...

... with an offer of 55%, it's hard to turn down.

For me, it depends on the price at which the Socket 1156 chips come in. If they're similarly priced to the Socket 1366 chips, I'll probably go for Socket 1366. But, if both CPU and motherboard are significantly cheaper than the equivalent i7 9xx chip and X58 board, then I could be tempted to go for the MSI offer instead.

I was all for getting one then I took a step back and thought hang on a minute what is the point upgrading from 775, where's all the games that are struggling on say a core 2 duo @3ghz + or q6600 etc ?.

No doubt it's a fantastic deal but at the end of the day you will still have a 407kph veyron on 70mph roads (the games).

As tempting as this is think I will hang on to my 775 based rig until some must play everyday games come along such as battlefield 3 and so on.
Still looking at a huge outlay of around £300 total to go down the i7/i5 path still a bit too pricey for my taste.
