MSI to release GeForce 9600 GT with 2GB memory

2GB on a 9600GT is completely pointless, but then so is 1GB.

Its been shown that an 8800GT with 512MB ram runs as fast as a 1GB 8800GT
in all resolutions.

Yet there will be people who buy this MSI 9600GT card (that will probably cost a much as an 8800GTS 512MB- obviously the better card) becasue of its 2GB of ram, and i will feel sorry for them for being sucked in by the hype and for wasting their money.

It will cost more than an 8800GT 512mb.

that heat sink cover makes the card look like its a kids toy.

Cheap transparent red plastic... yuck!

(also card = pointless)

512MB was the overkill when 256MB was the norm.
1024MB will cover everything in the near future.
2048MB pure waste.

why everyone moaning about it pointless and publicity stunt??

This happens every generation, always a profitable decision to stick aload of cheap memory on a cheap card and sell it for a hefty profit.

I dont see anything wrong with saying its pointless because it is, and every card it happenes to is called a pointless card.

Probably will just be DDR2 tbh... £20 worth of DDR2 PC-6400 generics OC'd to 1000MHz and they'll give that a £50 price hike, I bet.

Ah well, it's not for much more than showing off I presume. It does give me the idea of 'system on a graphics card'... See if you can get an OS to boot entirely off the graphics, that'd be cool. CUDA Linux anyone? :P

well atleast it will mean theres a greater demand for ddr3 and pushing prices down, and its not pointless, it earns them money.. so it does have a point.. its just pretty useless for the consumer.

Oh yeah, just looked at the clock speeds, definitely GDDR3...

Edit: Huh? GDDR5 isn't even out yet and GDDR4 is only used on ATi cards. >>

Samsung have had GDDR5 for long time (I posted here somewhere).

ATI used GDDR4 on 1 card but waste of time as the Memory speed is always lower than Nvidia cards which use GDDR3.
