MSI UK Details its Sandy Bridge Exchange Program

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I've been out of the country for the last month due to exceptional circumstances and thus missed out on getting my motherboard registration complete only having found out that MSI did this at the beginning of May.

Is there any way you can help?

Please, I'd rather not send back to my retailer (that is if they'll accept a B1? or is it B2? revision motherboard).

ScottiB, can you advise on where I stand, I'd prefer to get the board replaced then continue using it.

Thank you ever so much in advance for your help/direction!

I hope ScottiB can help you but registration did open 3 months ago.

You have a B2 and you want a B3.

Yeah, I must have been in a cave, what it is I don't build my own PC's, have a friend and sibling who upgrade/put them together for me, one's been away on work since the March, he only mentioned it to me in May when I last spoke to him. The other is quite a distance from me, its not the thing that comes up in conversation if you know what I mean.

So for you lovely folk, it may be a doddle putting a rig together, I'm a noob, well don't touch it, it seems daunting. Software isn't too bad.

The motherboard is running ATM in my HTPC but I don't want it to fail and damage my components if you know what I mean, could that be possible?

If its not a problem, I don't mind in continuing to use it, its been in use since Feb upon the build put together by my friend.

Thanks.

Sorry guys no can do.

We are in the process of moving offices so our UK warehouse has been closed and emptied and hence we are no longer in a position to operate the exchange.

The only options open to users who did not register during the two month window are to contact your reseller first and, if they refuse to help you, contact our NL based service centre.

Then now you know why they had an exchange program.

Not being nasty but you should have swapped it when you had the chance.

Now if you want working SATA 2 ports you'll have to go through the RMA process which will give you a lot more down time than the exchange program would have.

Do you believe it is worth calling up OCUK to exchange it?

I have heard RMAs take quite a while

The MSI exchange program was very good. You could pay for an advanced replacement so they'd deliver you a new motherboard and then collect the old one later and then refund what you paid. The only downtime was how long it took you to swap the boards over.

Or you could send the old one back and receive a new one within a couple of days.

Unfortunalely going down the normal RMA process you'll be without a motherboard for anything from 1-4 weeks.

If you don't want to take the chance on the SATA 2 ports failing then it's worth a call or making a thread in Customer Service.

I think the problem with exchanging a non-faulty motherboard now is that Intel were financing the exchange programs. I don't imagine that's a completely open ended arrangement so if the Intel funding has ended then retailers/manufacturers will be reluctant to exchange boards that they're not going to get compensated for.

You can but ask.
