MSI Wind

We got one of the marketing demos in the office the other week.
Cute little thing, very good quality screen and webcam.

Of course, being as I work in MSI RMA dept we got one of the engineers to rip it apart ;)

The only downside I can see is that it doesn't come with an ODD. It's too small to have one :D

Cool little web-browsing/general use notebook.

Italy have got 35,000 of them ordered just to start with :o

Intel can't make enough CPU's to keep up with demand.

The BIOS update is essential. They're working in flashing it before it hits sales in most cases.

hp01jpc: No, updating the BIOS does not void the warranty as long as it's an official BIOS and not a beta.

Managed to pick up my Advent 4211 for £265 (5% discount) instore yesterday as I got sick of waiting for my pre order of the Wind to be processed. This is the best piece of kit I have brought so far this year and will come very handy for when I start my own business.
I have already upgraded the RAM to 1.5gb as the Advent doesn’t have warranty stickers on like the Wind, loading times are abit quicker now with my extra apps:)
Also read somewhere that Intel are going to release their dual core Atoms soon which are compatible with current chipsets in the Wind/Advent after a simple bios update. Whether this is true or not I don’t know.

Only I problem, The CPU's are soldered into the Boards

Ok have had my little advent for 5 days know and I absolutely love it,
have got it dual booting xp and another os from a certain fruit company
and it rocks!.
If anyone out there is looking for a nice notebook sleeve to keep it in
I would highly recommend these:
http://wrappers.typepad.com/ipod/10-...ves/index.html

got mine today and I'm seriously impressed by the quality, I know I'm
probably not supposed to post that link here but I have checked around the
overclockers store (very regular customer) and cannot find anything similar.

Anyway one last question, what stickers are you all planning on using
to cover up the nasty advent logo? I need some inspiration!?.
Was thinking about starting a new thread just about this subject.

What if you update an Advent using MSI's BIOS?

i think this is the netbook for me as its cheaper than the eee and more upgradable than the ONE so i looking at getting this and a bigger ssd drive and more ram for it and sticking osx on it any one done any of this any thoughts?

buying the advent over the msi has another bonus, the advent has no warranty sticker over one of the holes so you can upgrade.
people in the other place have been told despite what another website said if you upgrade your ram you've voided the warranty.

the advent already has the latest bios so no need to upgrade yet.

how does that other OS run, is everything working ok? even mic and headphone socket etc?

is the wireless working "out of the box" or you have to replace it with the Dells one? and how did you install it from a USB flash?

The wireless is working perfectly with xp, have updated to the latest drivers.
Its not working with leopard so Ive ordered a dell 1490 wireless card to replace
it. Headphone socket and mic jack are not working either with Leopard but everything else works perfectly. I'm sure there will be some new audio drivers
soon.

Is it an audio driver problem the mic and headphone socket or is it hardware related and never to be fixed? this would sway it for me!

Been using an Advent branded one for a week (got it for £259 with discount and cashback) - absolutely great...have a proper MSI black version on the way too for £305. Advent for work (boss may buy) - Black one for me ;)

Regraded by landline broadband contract and saved £10 a month (hangled for offer)
Changed my mobile phone contract and saved £5 a month...

= £15 a month saved for Three Mobile Broadband @ 3GB :D

Now some peeps have seen it and want me to order them one  :p

Regarding the headphone jack issue in OSX, if you don't want to splash out on
a pair of bluetooth headphones there are plenty of usb to headphone
adapters out there that are very cheap, most of which shouldn't require
drivers to run.
Just do a google search for usb to audio adapters.
