MSI's X570 Tomahawk May Become Go-To OC Board??

Does anyone know why the AMD chipset drivers on MSI are different to the AMD ones? MSI one seems newer but totally different versions to current ones on AMD site?

Not sure. I believe AMD are slack with dropping the lastest chipset drivers I think, I'm using the version 2.10.26.336 from MSI website with an x570 tomahawk and 5800x no problems, but then again, *In a Consuela from family-guy voice* -"No... no... no.., Smiffy no nothing!"

Managed to solve my high temps. I just couldn't work out why 5600X was getting to 85+ when playing a few games. This is on a 280 AIO as well.

Bit of googling and found quite a few people with high temps also, and it was linked to the amount of juice going to the CPU. I capped it at 1.2v and my temps have come right down. Now maxing out at 60 and no stability issues or loss of FPS.

Hoping a bios fix will solve this, so I can go back to standard settings in the bios.

Were you using PBO?

Had to check as I hadn't changed anything relating to it. They are all set to auto.

When I first got the board, did a clean install of windows with everything at default settings.

Then once I was sure all was working I just set the memory profile. That's the only thing I changed.

It's only since all the temp issues that I did some digging and then tried to make some changes.

  • The multiplier is manually set at 45 so it runs at 4.5ghz all the time
  • Vcore manually set at 1.2

I ran PassMark and 3D Mark passes multiple times for
  • Standard out of the box
  • Standard out of the box with XMP Profile (2nd highest score but highest temps by far)
  • Standard out of the box with XMP Profile with the core at 1.2 (this was the lowest score)
  • 4.5ghz with XMP Profile with the core at 1.2 (highest score and good temps)
I'm happy now the temps are under control, its fast and quiet which will do for me.

Not sure if this is the best place to ask, or in the storage thread. I just installed my new CPU/mobo. I'm using 2 m.2 ssd's, but only one is showing up in the list under "this pc" but they are both showing in the device manager. So at the moment I can only use one of them. Anyone got an idea what to do to change this?

If you search for “risk management” or “partition management” (something like that) in your windows search bar, you’ll probably see the drive there with the partition greyed out. Make sure it’s initialised and then create a new partition.

It sure does as I installed one of them on my board yesterday.

Cheers

The Noctua NH-D15S looks like a good cooler and might work better with larger memory. The Noctua NH-D15 is saying 32mm clearance because of the extra 140mm fan, the Noctua NH-D15S doesn't have the extra fan so assume its got more clearance for RGB style ram

I have a 5600X running stock OEM cooler and its quite loud when idle with temps around 64 when idle

The extra fan is optional so you don't need to have it installed. I'm having only one fan on mine at the moment due to the memory sticks.

Oh that's mad that, my Gigabyte Aorus 3080 Master fits my x570 Tomahawk in my case, I do however have 2x M.2 drives only.

Hi

Will the Noctua NH-D15 cooler fit this board ?

Thanks

Hey buddy, I have the Noctura NH-D15 chromax.black installed with this MOBO and I've got all 4x RAM slots occupied, my memory is https://www.overclockers.co.uk/team...3600mhz-quad-channel-kit-black-my-095-tg.html,

Here are the RAM clearance info from their website too, I had to refer to this also: https://noctua.at/en/how-big-is-the...e-does-it-provide-for-ram-and-chipset-coolers

here are the dimensions from Team Group's website for my RAM: Dimensions 48(H) x 134(L) x 9(W)mm,

You might need to make sure you have a nice sized case as you'll need to lift the fan a little higher due to the size of the RAM.

I hope this helps, happy building!

Had my system in sig running for a few weeks now and now its nearly Xmas I've finally got some spare time to start overclocking :) Thing this I haven't overclocked an AMD system since the Athlon64 days and things have changed quite a bit when looking through the bios  At stock with PBO off by CPU is boosting all cores to 4450mhz and all cores to 4650mhz with PBO enabled but with PBO on its putting about 1.3v through the CPU. Is that ok for Ryzen? TBH I would rather manually OC the cpu so I can control the voltages myself but when I set a CPU multiplier the CPU just runs at that speed constantly. Is it possible to set the multiplier and have the CPU clock up to that speed when needed to downclock when idle etc? Or do I have to play with the PBO settings to achieve this?

Honestly, I'm not sure it's worth manually overclocking the CPU... Put your time and effort into the nice RAM sticks you have.

Personally, I'm going to turn PBO off (when my CPU finally arrives and I can build my new rig)... I'm not convinced the small boost is worth it and so many reports of excessive volts.
