Hi All,

Looking to Upgrade my PC as it is starting to slow down and fail on some games, what I have so far is:

Intel Core i5-3570k CPU
16 GB Ram
Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 Ti
SuperFlower FX 650W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply
Gigabyte G1 Sniper M3 motherboard

On windows 10 64bit

Want to be able to play games on a higher gfx setting and probably have it just generally run nicer, unfortunately I will likely need more fans too as my PC gets damn hot as it is, it only has the Shinobi BitFenix case fans at the moment, I am very tempted by the silent! fan/watercooled system but not sure if it will fit in my case.

Thanks for any and all help!

Gfx card and oc the CPU.

What resolution is your monitor? Are you using a stock intel heatsink?

Your GPU is the bottleneck in that system even at 1080p/high settings. Have you overclocked your CPU to give it some free grunt ?

What monitor do you have? Assuming it's 1080p, consider a 1060/1070 or above budget depending.

If you want a new system i5 8400 is a solid choice with the aforementioned GPU's if you can hold off until the cheaper entry level motherboards are released you can save some money.

Psu is fine and no need for replacement.

What budget could you free for this upgrade?
Depending on your expenses capabilites, you can choose a graphics card with 8GB GDDR5 and faster than GTX 1060 which comes with a limited framebuffer of 6GB.
Which can be very important for high-quality textures.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £299.89 (includes shipping: £9.90)

If your budget is less, then 4GB GDDR5 graphics card, but after some time (actually now or fairly soon), you might again be bottlenecked by the graphics card:

AMD cards age like fine wine, you can rely on them for a much better support for future titles.

Waste of money buying more/different case fans for that case. It's known to be a hotbox. Use that fan money on a new, better ventilated case. And definitely a decent CPU cooler, and new GPU.

1920x1080 monitor, it's a BenQ monitor and yes I'm using stock intel heatsink.

Not overclocked my CPU.

Happy to spend around £500-600 on parts to make it a happier PC.

Oh! Good to know that I should just buy a new case xD Any hints on CPU cooling would be great.

Glad to know that my GPU is definitely the highest issue :D

I would prefer to be Nvidia though, just because I feel that AMD's drivers are a pain to find and sort, from personal experience.

Gtx 1060 , new case as suggested and solid cpu cooler to overclock that bad boy :)

Cases have never been better, more moving to aluminium , lots of glass designs and then... RGB everywhere ! If that's your thing .
CPU good chunky air or AIO, depends on your case and fancy

Subjective feelings don't count. Problems with AMD drivers, especially for high-class graphics card like the RX 580 don't exist.
Actually, it is the opposite, Nvidia has more problems with its drivers and are hard to find.

Nvidia has GeForce experience, that is your direct updater, never any issues with finding new drivers with Nvidia, however, my partner who has an AMD can never update his drivers as it takes ages searching google to actually download them and then find a trusted website, no support system like the GeForce Experience, no program to update it properly. IMO.

Always loved the BitFenix cases so a bit out of depth when it comes to choosing a new case xD will have to have a nose at some :D

AMD graphics drivers also update automatically, in the background and you don't even notice how it gets the new update. Without your consent, especially when you wanna choose the driver of your choice.
I don't know about your case. Are you using a very old graphics card?

New AMD drivers are much improved , and new editions that they released they go through massive efforts to do a fresh overhaul and add features. Fair play to them this time around

It's 2 years old now.

New AMD drivers are much improved

Good to know they are doing better again. -May- try them then... Although I am worried about doing so because of the driver issues I have previously experienced, if however, as you both have said, they are much improved they might be worth it.

With Nvidia and AMD, I tend to do the extreme and use DDU to uninstall old driver then download it and install.
AMD now has option to update and install from its interface but I've ran into one or to errors or doesn't download .
But that's just me

AMD has always been in a very unfair situation and relationship with its potential customers. Always negative things are attached without any substances behind it.
I will tell you - the likelihood to experience problems with GeForce right now is as big as the likelihood to experience problems with AMD drivers.

A 2-year-old graphics card from AMD has its drivers at https://support.amd.com/en-us/download . There is the option for an automatic detection for the most compatible driver for your card.

Thank you both! I shall try and get that sorted for my other half's PC and not judge AMD so harshly :D Thank you for making me aware that they have improved!

Are Phantex cases good?

What case would you guys recommend for a pc that over heats at the moment :D

Depends on your budget, want it low cost but with glass and solid design.
Phanteks p300
Want to kick up a gear, subtle RGB,silent and able to have Mobo right way up or upside down
Bequiet Base 700
Then... Then we roll up the gears to Lian Li ....

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £675.03 (includes shipping: £23.10)

All about personal choice really -
Personal fav is Jonsbo , produce their own designs and case like In Win and Lian Li, then you have others that design it but don't make it like bequiet, then you get Corsair with the running joke they'll slap their badge an anything :D

Still have my £300 TJ07 that's almost 10 years old in the shed haha , some things just can't part with

Oooh I like the be quiet one, have to purchase an upgrade for the other half too as his is another Bitfenix :D

I can see why you like the Jonsbo ones, they are pretty! I think I need to have a moment of PC love again as I fell out of love with my current one and it's just sort of gone "meh"

Will it need more fans do you think? as my shinobi fans are crap xD

Base 700 is nice, specially as it's modular and fan turn the mbo upsidedown allowing you to have the desktop o. Your left hand side

Jonsbo UMX4 ... What a case, flaw is rad support , 27m thick 240 AIO . Need umx5 had ruined it for me .

Think if you've fallen out of love , a case draws you in . Always when you hit power button . Should want to have a cheeky check of your parts ... Then it's all down to business. Getting that better gameplay then a console to make you realise it was worth the extra cash to game as part of the pcmasterrace :,D

Heck even redoing cable management gives you a sick grin when it's finally done

It's comes with 1 silent wing 3 at front and back, both 140mm PWM. Pick up another for the front to run possitive pressure.
I warn though , not cheap £20 ... Lian Li / in win ... They aren't for the budget minded . You get that case , should last a decade for looks and performance .

Have a Silverstone TJ07 ... Old watercoolers must have that is wrapped up in the shed, just can't part with it haha
