Sad news
I remember watching him light the torch at the Atlanta Olympic games on TV 20 years ago.
It was also sad that he suffered from Parkinson's syndrome since 1984.
Seeing what happened to him as he declined with Parkinsons was horrible.
However, I don't quite understand the fascination with him, only because I don't like boxing though. The term legend is thrown around far too much these days, and having seen a fair amount of footage of him he comes across as thoroughly unpleasant at times. That might be part of the persona of boxing, but it certainly didn't impress me.
Still what he did for civil and black rights, and post boxing amassadorial roles are something he should definitely be remembered for.
RIP.
What? He is the very definition of legend: 'an extremely famous or notorious person, especially in a particular field.'
He was arguably one of the greatest boxers of all time and on top of that a civil and black rights activist, so yes definitely what I'd class as a legend.
He was a hell of a boxer but perhaps even more impressive as a man regardless of whether you agreed with his beliefs or not. He wasn't always nice or fair to his opponents and he didn't always take the right path but he was never anodyne and had the courage of his convictions.
.Hating people because of their color is wrong. And it doesn't matter which color does the hating. It's just plain wrong
