Muhammad Ali put on life support as family warned ‘the end is near - **edit Ali has now passed away*

Sad news :(

I remember watching him light the torch at the Atlanta Olympic games on TV 20 years ago.
It was also sad that he suffered from Parkinson's syndrome since 1984.

Yes, I recall seeing what looked like a complete shadow of a strong big man, trembling, trying to control his actions as he was lighting the torch, some illnesses are an awful affliction for people.
I guess modern medicine is why he lasted 20 further years after that.

Seeing what happened to him as he declined with Parkinsons was horrible.

However, I don't quite understand the fascination with him, only because I don't like boxing though. The term legend is thrown around far too much these days, and having seen a fair amount of footage of him he comes across as thoroughly unpleasant at times. That might be part of the persona of boxing, but it certainly didn't impress me.

Still what he did for civil and black rights, and post boxing amassadorial roles are something he should definitely be remembered for.

RIP.

What? He is the very definition of legend: 'an extremely famous or notorious person, especially in a particular field.'

He was arguably one of the greatest boxers of all time and on top of that a civil and black rights activist, so yes definitely what I'd class as a legend.

The man deserves his title, he wasn't just a face on a poster.

2016, turning out to not be a good vintage.

I've always said to myself, if someone ever gave me three wishes the first one would have been to give Muhammad Ali all his faculties back.

74 not a bad innings R.I.P

Don't agree with a fair few things that he did but when you read up on what America was like, for example the refusal of service at a whites only diner as an Olympic champion its difficult to imagine what things were like.
