Multiple explosions across Iran hitting weapons factories, oil refineries and possibly some individuals (news still catching up so title may change).

Hi All,

I was up late this morning and at around 2am-4am the first reports and social media posts with video started to roll in of what, from the few videos I've seen, are very definitely "high explosive" explosions on the roof of several buildings claimed to be drone manufacturers dotted around Iran and the Iranian Republican Guard has acknowledged this but claim that this "attack" (their words) was a failure. So far there's been little Western Media reporting but the story is picking up pace this morning.

Here's what we have so far -

Iranian News confirming the explosions

Footage of the one of the alleged Drone strikes taken moments after one explosion (see the smoke in the air,) and filming another impact -

and an oil refinery in Northern Iran also "hit" at the same time -

and then some unverified SM posts saying individuals have also been attacked but not way to confirm this info so could be fake -

I realise its Sunday so most "Western" Media will be slow to get confirmations before doing a full reporting but so far virtually everything being reported seems to be factual so far which makes this a very interesting weekend. The usual suspects (Israel, US) will be blamed for this but I'm more interested in the particular reasoning for such a hugely visible act of aggression vs the more "restrained" actions that have previously occurred inside Iran, usually targetted at specific individuals with very small/limited firepower rather than this extremely overt act.

Is it US retaliation for them sending Drones to Russia for use in Ukraine?
Is it a US warning not to send anything else to Russia?
Is it Israeli retaliation for attacks in Israel which have left 7 dead this week?
Is it Saudi retaliation for supporting Yemen & earlier Refinery attacks?

etc etc

I don't know what reasoning is being given internally as to who/why this was carried out but it's certainly a huge story at a very tough point in Global relations right now with the potential to escalate rapidly.

Would there be justification for the US to attack Iran directly like this over weapons/drone sales to Russia?

I mean, it's not like they are the only Country supplying weapons and/or still funding Russia by buying their Oil & Gas.

That does seem the main suspect tbh.

And Blinken is going to Isreal tomorrow on a pre-planned visit to talk about de-escalating the violence going on...Im assuming he's going to have more to talk about than he planned!

Starting to get more mainstream media traction over the last few hours, very surprised that such a huge story in the tinder-box Middle East has taken nearly 18hrs to report on -

More explosions tonight, now it looks like various unofficial small outposts (being called HQ's but not really) of the Iranian Islamic Republican Guard on the Syrian side of the Iraq/Syria border have been hit - Still only Social Media reporting and nothing from media as, I guess they're collecting multiple sources for verification as this is a complex story right now -

25 Iranian Trucks attacked on the Iraq/Syria Border (image in 2nd twitter post appears to from truck attack).

More aircraft heard overhead in Tehran -

Official Qud's Channel in Iran (not this twitter account) has claimed that the drones which didn't make it to their target are apparently same as the ones used in Lebanon in 2019 (images are not from this attack but older 2019 images I think - used image reverse search) -

Azerbaijan's embassy in Tehran was evacuated after the terror attack which killed 2 a few days ago, they've just landed back home safely -

Iran should ask Russia for some nukes, certainly would work better than any s300 that may go flying off and hitting your own civilians lol.

Whilst I am comfortable with these strikes degrading Irans military capability. I cant help but be concerned that conflict is once again proliferating further afield.
I again get that feeling deep down we are building towards more violent times.

The reinforcing of the idea that war with China in Taiwan is inevitable is not helping either. We are going to see a huge build up of military power over the next few years. US factories are already being wound up to seemingly war levels of output.

I've never understood why Israel seems to get away with casually attacking other countries. Is it just that everyone expects the US to back them if anything kicks off?

Doesn't look like that strike on the drone factory did much damage. The other strikes seems much more effective.

It is a puppet state of the West, strategically located in the ME.

Israel says drones strikes against Iran were a phenomenal success

You love to see it!

Because pretty much everyone hates the countries Israel attacks.

No, it's because Israel is the most powerful nation in the Middle East (and would still be even without nuclear weapons, which she definitely possesses) which also explains why every time the Arabs have tried to attack her, they've got their arses kicked.
