Multiple explosions across Iran hitting weapons factories, oil refineries and possibly some individuals (news still catching up so title may change).

It's all over Western media, I can't see how anyone is missing it.
I haven't checked the media today. But apart from this site I'd only seen the story covered on the Arab/Middleeast focused news channels here.

I hadn't seen anything on BBC, Sky, ITV etc

Makes you think what would happen in a nuclear warhead went off in a country. Could we assign blame? Would we, for example, launch an attack on Russia if we suspected it was a Russian nuke?

These are worrying times.
If it was launched, I would like to think we have enough sensors that we would be able to track it, if missed by our own radars/sensors then likely something that could be picked up by various other friendly nations capabilities or commercial satellites/sensors etc.
Something smuggled in? Would likely be more difficult, but i'd suspect they would be able to pin down a probable source after in depth investigations.

If something was launched and tracked I'd suspect an immediate appropriate response would be actioned be that nuclear or non nuclear. Although one single isolated attack with no immediate point of origin would be unlikely to spur on an immediate direct military response. Would they get away with it? Unlikely, I'd suspect a NATO Article 5 response eventually if that was what the country wanted to pursue (if NATO), although I feel that would likely take time to action (weeks at least).

Actually, thinking about this, it is rapidly getting to a place were war is anonymous. Countries can attack each other and potentially there is no proof who was responsible.
"We (the people) aren't told who is responsible".

The various intelligence agency's will most likely know who is responsible.

The MAD doctrine has proved an excellent nuclear deterrent for 61 years. I do not expect it to fail in my lifetime.

It really depends largely on proliferation, in my opinion.

As the number of countries with the ability to launch a viable nuclear missile increases, it becomes way more complicated. The chance of a launch increases as the club membership increases.

If, for example, Iran gets a nuclear capacity, that's likely to up the ante somewhat. And, really, it's just a matter of time until they do...

Makes me think of the SS Richard Montgomery. Sat right next to the shore with 1.5 kilotonnes of explosive onboard waiting to go off. I am sure the only reason the government hasn't done anything about it is beause they can blame the "previous governments" as long as they leave it alone and it goes off by itself, but if they touch it and it goes off it would be political suicide.

I think that issue is that, considering how much of a huge event it appears to be, you'd imagine that it'd be front page somewhere on almost every site, but despite the fact that it is being reported on, most sites have already "buried" the story in with everyday stuff so you have to actively look for it rather than being "OMG FRONT PAGE!!!!" news.

I checked the following (wide range of Left/Right) and it's not on the front page of any or even the "world" news page of the vast majority, but a couple arrested in Tehran for dancing somehow is -

Guardian - Nothing
BBC World News - Nothing
Reuters - Nothing
Sky News - 1 story at the bottom of World News
Daily Mail - Nothing
Fox - Nothing
CNN - 2 stories in the Middle East section of World News
MSNBC - Nothing
NBC - 1 story at the bottom of World News
Aljazeera - Nothing
ABC - Nothing

This isn't to say the sites above haven't reported on it, only that the story isn't obvious unless you specifically search for it on most sites.

I can't speak for the other but it was on the front page of the BBC for a few hours on the day you created this thread. Thought, like you've said they have moved on to more "important" matters.

It's a testament to the fact that there's so much crazy in the world right now, this incident isn't significant enough to compete with all the other stuff.

I'm not sure if the same is possible with the aftermath of a nuclear warhead going off but enriched uranium, etc. is traceable back to where it was processed.

Suppose a Greek ship in the Thames blew up. Without absolute proof, I mean the Russians, for example, could say that some terrorist organisation stole it, would we be prepared to trigger Armageddon?
