Multiple terror attacks in Vienna

Wait what? How can this be?

I thought the arguments/excuses for the attacks a few years back were [something something] Iraq [something something] Afghanistan....

More recently I believe the Associated Press put forth some guff re: France and it's History of colonialism... "insiting" muslim violence.

But Austria has been a neutral country since the middle of last century and didn't have overseas colonies????

I guess it must be down to the Austrian expelling the Turks from the Balkans in the late 1700s right? Can't think what else it could be... definitely nothing at fault with any regressive, fundamentalist beliefs here, we must always have an alternative explanation/thing to blame right!

Yes, our lockdown and curfew came into effect at midnight. So people caught up in this are highly likely to have been people going out for one last dinner or whatever before the restrictions kicked in.

This. Thread is pointless if the moderators are just going to delete anything criticising the murder of innocent people by followers of the barbaric cult known as Islam. Hell, I criticised the BBC for it's selective reporting surrounding this attack and that post has been deleted too. So I guess we're not allowed to criticise the BBC now either.

There's a significant (and from what I can determine) pretty happy Turkish expat population here. Vienna is quite multicultural, high numbers of Serbs, Croats and Turks in particular.

I've lived here on and off for almost four years and never seen anything I'd describe as extremism, fundamentalism, or even low level racial tension.

This has come as a real shock here.

I heard it said that a lot of anti-Turkish propoganda was launched after the attacks. Apparently Turks were heard to be helping the victims in some of the clips that circulated, and perhaps their voices were being confused (perhaps deliberately by those with an agenda) with the attackers?
 
I'll never understand why so many false reports come out on these things. There was a fake suicide belt, no hostages taken and bombs going off thankfully. It's like people just want to feel involved and make stuff up.
Hope they catch all the rats who did it.
 
Armed police everywhere this morning. Extra forces have been brought in from other areas in Austria.

EDIT

There are now 11 cops outside my local underground station (100m from our apartment) - all armed with pistols, and half of them with automatic rifles. I have to admit, it's comforting to see the swift response from the Austrian government.

Are you joking? Theres a thread still open discussing putting muslims in concentration camps mate. I've called the mods out several times (criticising a religion is one thing, blatant racism is another i should add) about the blatant racism and nothing gets done.

Stunned this thread is still open. Usually any criticism of the 'religion of peace' gets clamped down on asap on here.

Im not the one wanting to punish all muslims mate. Im also not asking for concentration camps.

Its people like you who are labeling all muslims as being monsters...thats my point.

You're the one trying to justify attacks like this by mentioning things like the invasion of Iraq.

Nah im not justifying it im simply stating a reason and suggesting that we as a country have done some horrible things on a larger scale. Why should an illegal invasion killing millions be ignored and somehow seen as acceptable?
