Multiple workouts in a day

I can row for 30min if i keep a steady pace. But when i have been rowing i havnt been keeping a steady pace, after reading online it seems that its best to do bursts of full speed, with an overall shorter rowing time, which is what i have been doing.

And when i say full speed, i realy mean going as fast as i possibly can. That takes a lot out of me, there is no way i could possibly do 30 mins like that.

no one expects you to do 30mins flat out. What i mean is try and adapt your HIIT rhythym to allow 30 mins of exercise. Start off with 4:30 steady and 0:30 flat out. Then try to increase the flat out sections to 1:00 then 1:30 and lower the rest periods accordingly. An ideal ultimate goal would be 0:30-0:30 although id prefer 1:1.

I don't know a single person who does HIIT for 30 mins. Surely 15 mins is more normal. If you are doing it for 30 mins then you aren't working hard enough :p

'Up to 3x more fat' on the first link, Id take that with a pinch of salt really.

Definately see the benefits in the AM run though, you will dip straight into your bodys energy supply and feel more awake and likely burn more calories than you would otherwise in the day, but then you are going to whack em straight back into your body.

Im thinking I best start doing more runs now, Iv slacked off a lot recently and im not a good runner anyway, will 15min in morning then 15min on a night be alright?
Last night i was absolutely BUZZING even though id had at extreme most 2hours of sleep the night before and then did about 4hours at the gym(some endurance training, weights, swimming, chillout, some HIIT), my heart was pumping all day and I wanted to get back into a sweat.. It took me a while to get some sleep so would it be wise for me to go out and run in the evenings ontop of doing day runs/workouts?

I'm sorry matty but the number is totally wrong.

Here's a quote from someone on T-Nation I would actually listen to...

Fasted Cardio: A Rant

Are you ******* kidding me? Seriously, are you ******* kidding me? Why are we even talking about this?

Let's take two twins, both 200 pounds, both doing the same training program, taking the same supplements, and following the same nutrition plan in the hopes of getting lean.

One difference, though: one of them eats 2 eggs and does 30 minutes of cardio three days per week. The other does 30 minutes of cardio, three days per week and then eats 2 eggs.

So what's the magical difference in terms of fat loss after six months? Drum roll please...

I'll tell you — no ******* difference.

However, whenever you bring up this question we get a ton of responses saying, "This is exactly the information I needed!" Oh **** off. The reason you are still fat is because you couldn't decide to do cardio on an empty stomach or not?

Thirty minutes of steady state cardio will burn about 300 calories. Three times per week — 900 calories. Add that up for 26 weeks and we get a whopping: 23,400 calories. Or 6.6 pounds of fat. In six months.

If doing it fasted, burned 30% more (which it doesn't), you're looking at another 2 pounds of fat in that same six month period. Or an additional 0.07 pounds per week.

And for those of you who say — I do fasted cardio but I have a small scoop of protein first, then you're NOT DOING IT FASTED THEN, ARE YOU?

Fat people finish marathons all the time. Aerobic training doesn't do a hell of a lot for real world fat loss. Even if you're hungry.

Wardie, I think that example is a bit extreme.

What the Matty is suggesting is exercising on an empty stomach (which would have to start burning fat as there will be very little else in the system first thing) as opposed to exercising later in the day, when your body would have replenished any lost carbs etc. The body wouldn't need to dip into it's fat reserves to fuel the muscles.

That's my interpretation anyway, right or wrong (and probably wrong!)

Yes he is right, but overall it has very little impact. If your calories are below maintenance then you are going to lose weight if you are doing morning cardio or not.

It is NOT going to make you lose 3 times more fat by doing a little bit of cardio on an empty stomach.

I used to be of the same belief but i've learned a lot since then.

When we say burn 3 x more fat its not like i can do cardio in the evening and lose 1lb or in the AM and lose 3lb. Its obviosly much much less than that. but talking to some of my competetive bodybuilding friends AM cardio is the way to go.
It may have something to do with being able to recover for the PM weight session.

who said A LITTLE bit of cardio thats like me agreeing with your point of view having a 12" pizza going for a sprint round the block and coming back and saying I aint losing any weight

I know my body AM works for me. Just like I cant drink lager but boy I can put away tequila.

You're the one who said it can burn 3x more fat...

In the grand scheme of things, all that matters is that calories in is less than calories out. Yes, there is timing considerations to be made with carbs, but the point is still pretty much the same.

Also, be careful who you take advice from. So many people take advice from competetive/hobbie gym enthusiasts who are on steroids, when you simply can't train how they do naturally.
