Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

One thing we need to upgrade is the video transmitter/receiver antennas. Does anyone have any recommendations? I know someone said something about a guy on eBay a while back.

Also do I need them on the receiver as well as the transmitter?

I get all my antenna's from Gav over on the multi rotor uk forum.

They are brilliant, you will get much more distance than the standard antenna which are rubbish.

He will sell you a pair for transmitter/reciever for around £30

I got a set from Gav also, very very good, but I recently moved to v2 Fatshark ones as they are a little less prone to break up when you are not totally horizontal. I like the fact also that the cable can be bent to any angle and it stays there. They are sold as a pair, one for TX and one for RX, they are both the same and need to be mounted on horizontal plane in a area where there is least obstructions to line of site... so out to the side / underneath pointing down from UAV (you need to experiment on position depending on how you usually fly in relation to base station). The one on your RX pointing straight up.

Thanks guys. Our monitor takes two antennae; what would the result be in using one stock, one upgrade? Don't particularly want to buy two pairs when we only need three unless there'll be a significant difference.

Got the same pair that Flukester mentioned, also ordered another set as my monitor takes 2 antennas aswell. Once they come in i can tell you if there is a difference in signal/quality

Performance the same from what I heard with the major difference being the stem is stiffer on the v2 so holds in place better.

Guys, the spinners on my RCX motors have a hole through them, I'm using a thick needle to tighten them but is there a tool for this sort of thing and if so what is it called?

I did wonder :) but after I used a small precision driver and it snapped like a twig I was wondering if there was something designed for the task. Maybe I need to buy better quality tools instead :).

This. I hate precision screw drivers in general. A few years ago I was able to get hold of a selection of Draper screw drives in "precision" sizes but with an actual screw driver handle on them. Having average to big hands, I guess, precision drivers just don't work for me. Even a moderately tight screw has me beat unless I have a good driver to hand ;)

On the plus side, with quality gear, you thread less screw heads and the drivers themselves tend to last a lot longer too, even if you do daft stuff like using the shaft to tighten prop nuts :D

Anyone on here got a Naze32? I've been looking about but they seem to be rarer than rocking horse **** If anyone has one going spare or knows of an in stock UK/EU source, I am all ears ;)

Finally going to get round to building my first quad. I've had tonnes of hours with the tiny Hubsan X4. I have the basics down but it's so hard to fly properly outside due to wind. And also the auto flip and stuff makes it hard to really be quick with it as it takes your quick stick movement as a wish to make it flip... Which is not what I want to do 90% of the time lol.

I'm still awful at banking, but I will get there.

Anyway, here is the stuff I will be getting. I'm buying 4x batteries as I hope I can put 2 on the quad and get a semi decent flight time.

I need a few more bits, such as cables, connectors and stuff.

But my question today is, what transmitter do I go for? I don't want to spend hundreds, just something that will do for now.

Thanks

Click the right stick to enable acro mode, then click the left stick to disable flip. Acro speed sans flip :)

Assuming the H107L and above

Ah, EPIC. Thanks :D:D:D:D

It's so annoying and makes me not want to use it.

Thanks. Serious, saved me a tonne of annoyance.

My question still stands, what transmitter is good?

I'm sure others will disagree as you should invest in the best radio for the future, but I'm happy with my Turnigy 9x Tx/Rx and if you get it from HK, it's cheap as chips, you could always sell it if you need to upgrade.
