Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

I'm sure others will disagree as you should invest in the best radio for the future, but I'm happy with my Turnigy 9x Tx/Rx and if you get it from HK, it's cheap as chips, you could always sell it if you need to upgrade.

I like the new Spektrum DX6 for ease of use and great features, fantastic value for money.

If you want a more powerful radio, I like the FrSky Taranis, especially got my eye on the new Horus.

A radio with a decent signal would be good as I would be moving into FPV once I'm comfortable.

I will look at what's been suggested so far. The FrSky Taranis is out due to the aerial being fixed and not being able to remove.

Thanks

I've just gone for the turnigy 9xr as my first tx. Same as the 9x but with all the mods people were doing to make the 9x a great radio already done for you.

Bit of a grumble about hobbyking. Had an email on 28th may to say my order had been dispatched from the warehouse and was given a tracking number.

Checked my tracking number on saturday and it just said dispatch pre-alert. So i went on live chat yesterday to ask why my tracking number wasnt being updated. She said it was definitely sent and although unusual, my item will be with me shortly. Tracking number updated today to say it was posted over the counter in china today.

Did they think i wouldnt notice they had forgot to post it?

I'm hoping to buy all my stuff through hobbyking, here's to hoping they don't stuff it up lol.

I am looking at the 9xr, it looks good... Most of it is mumbo jumbo to me, either way, seems like it will do the job.

Haven't looked at all the options, make sure it comes with (or you get an appropriate) RF module

Not sure if this was posted

What a harpy, she even claimed he assaulted her, luckily he was filming.

Just to add to the google cluster **** on her name anyway, Andrea Mears is an absolute pillock. She's in court on the 19th, hope they somehow wrangle the death penalty :p

I'm not aware of a 2.4GHz radio that has a removable antenna. Out of interest, why do you want to be able to remove it?

If you want to put high gain 2.4GHz antenna onto it you'll have to hack and bodge almost all transmitters.
If you're planning to use UHF/LRS in the future you can turn the internal 2.4 radio off.

I got one too :) I just need a SD card for it.

Also if anyone is getting one for your APM/Pixhawk, the FC and Flytrex plugs will be fine but the GPS plug may or may not fit your GPS, I just had to cut and splice on a plug to fit my GPS. If you have a 3DR GPS you'll probably be ok.

You prolly already know but they don't work with SDHC cards, doesn't sound a big deal but it's quite hard to find old MicroSD cards... I ended up getting two 1GB ones on ebay for a fiver. The flight files are only about 270k each though

Guy I sold my Phantom to is just coming to terms with a Flyaway. He strapped FPV Hubsan to bottom of it and mid flight it went into Failsafe but jetted off in the wrong direction.

So loss is Phantom and FPV Hubsan.... I guess the cause is that little hubsan transmitting on same frequency as Phantom and possibly a screwed compass. Without compass the Phantom doesn't know what it's doing :(

He's spent hours now searching. I might offer to overfly the area and take footage home to analyze... he lives 50 miles away though

Here is a couple of snaps from Christchurch Priory this morning..
