Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Cool will give that a go, is it reccomended to use something like that on? What about something like PCB cleaner ?

Got most of the muck out, but would be good to give it a good clean at some stage

Just be careful with the alcohol, worked great on the windings but also watch the scrubbing on the bobbin wires they are really delicate. Foam can melt with alcohol too and careful with delicate plastics. It is my own method so as I said do it at your own peril :) not sure what is in pcb.

Alcohol based stuff, to be honest the one that had a dip in the mud seems to be not too bad atm, think I have got most of it out.

It spins by hand a little better. I will see how it goes but wont use any, will have a read online if I need to clean further.

Recieved my 2 x new 3S 1300mah 25-50c batteries for my 250, although I doubt I will be flying this weekend.

Have some heavy car cleaning (clean, clay, compound polish, wax) so my time will be sucked up.

Anyone tried the Turnigy hard pack lipos?

using the 5000mAH 4s, getting around 5mins flying time with battery warning kicking in at 3.9v. Guess its time to work out ideal settings now.

Haven't weighed it yet. Left my scales at home.
When it was just the stock 550, i was getting 10 mins no problem, but now i have the extended landing gear, gimbal & GoPro.

Ah mine is a 450 with landing gear, fpv, mobius and the naza v2 gps. But still I thought you would have had more flying time than that There are higher rated batteries albiet with more weight so would probably even out

Looks good but separate battery's are inefficient... everything should be from flight battery. You are shortening your flight time.

Reason for this is you are carrying around another battery and battery packaging that will not be drained of power when you land, unlike your flight battery's. (think of it like running a car around with a petrol generator for your car stereo :))

Got some more tinkering to do as i want to try and get hold of a V2 PMU for the Naza & drive some LEDS, so power will get sorted for the gimbal that way.

Getting there slowly :)

So I lowered my looptime to 2500 as suggested (also what my ESC's are recommended to use) it felt a little better after some fine tuning but not that noticeable. I'm happier that it's set correctly now though so thanks.

Starting to find it a little slow, what's the cheapest or easiest thing to change for a little more speed.

DYS 1806
Emax 12A SimonK
HQ 5x4
525g AUW
Not using angled motor mounts

4s! The motors and ESC's should be fine as you will rarely be at full throttle for long. I think the emax are rated for 18a burst? The only thing to be careful of is the voltage limit of any 12v stuff you have on board. Normally cameras and vtx.

Or 5x4.5 or 6x4.5 props. I didn't find that much increase in speed going from 5x4 to 5x4.5, but not really monitoring it that closely. Would be cheaper than batteries to try out a couple of sets of props.

I quite like 6x3 props if your frame can take it, 4s is a new ball game to me and a new level of difficulty, throttle is much more noticeable, quad was climbing so fast :). 5x4 on 4s might desync if they spin too fast. 6x45 on 4s might be too much for your ESCs / motors to handle. Are you running Simonk or BLHeli on the ESCs? BLHeli was petty much a pre-req for me to run the sunnysky's on.

All my stuff ran 4s with no change, Afro 12 ESCs with BLHeli, immersionrc vtx was fine, it also supplies the camera with voltage so that was good, LEDs are rated 12v but we're happy on 4s too.

The PDB bottom plate option is now available for the RC Explorer Tricopter. Looks really tidy, but I'm just concerned about my lack of soldering skills nerfing it. I'm tempted to just stick with the standard frame and a breakout cable to keep soldering to a minimum.

Just watching the Phantom 3 advertisements I wish they would at least not advertise it by flying over populated cities and crowds. There is even a part where they're showing it being used inside a nightclub. DJI will be the reason it all gets eventually banned.
