Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Either should be fine I guess depending on what size you want, ie what motor. 15" I imagine might be a bit too big for what you want unless you have quite a slow spinning motor and light tricoptor? (like 600kv at a wild guess?)

Looks a bulky motor that! Is that one of the Hextronik ones that Hobbyking sells?

Can someone clarify, I think I'm going bonkers, it is the Slow-Fly/RD type like these and these that I need for the tri?? Head's completely gone. :(

On another, slightly related note, i didn't realise the KKBoard was so small! :D

You have two different sized Props there, one are 10x4.5 and the second ones are 15x7.5, you need to get them the same but one set of reversed, so you need for example: 1045 (10x4.5) and 1045R (10x4.5 Reverse) on a Tri I think the two at the front are normal and the rear is reversed, so buy more normal sets than reversed as you'll probably go through more of them, also (Not as important on a Tricopter) get different colours for the normal and reverse, will help a bit with orientation at distance, but this isn't a big a problem on a Tricopter as it's easier to see which way is front anyway.

Normally the front 2 props on a tri should spin opposite directions, the back one shouldn't matter in theory - but in practise the KK2 will tell you to go one way with it.

Cheers doofer... yeah I know they're different sizes I was just using them as examples of the type of propeller to use :)

Edit: I've been reading many different ways to setup the kk2.0 with a tri. some say that there's no need for counter rotating props, some say they should be counter rotating.

Doesn't R mean Right Hand rotation? Either way - for a quad I'd deffo get different colours but to denote front and back rather than rotation direction - unfortunately it means that you have to buy colours that are both LH and RH but as Doofer said - orientation at a distance makes a HUGE difference - LEDs are also a godsend for that sort of thing.

I bought my 8045 props in separate packs. Ie I could have bought 2x clockwise sets and 1x anti. Think HobbyKing do the same for 10" props so you don't necessarily have to buy lots that you don't need.

Yeah I was just using them as examples.. completely ignore the sizes.

Yeah :) It's a HexTronik DT750, should have plenty of beef :)
Are you using the same parts or differnt bits?
Same stuff, may deviate slightly to mounting certain electronics but everything is as is.
Edit: Make sure you post up your progress!

Heard good things about those motors, look like they are much more power efficient than the NTMs I'm using. Any idea how durable they are? Mine have taken a pounding through some big crashes and still seem fine bar some bearing noise.

I now have my FPV cam and wired it up to the OSD last night, I tried to fly it FPV but I forgot to setup the camera to WDR, the sky looked fantastic but the ground was black. Fixed that when I got home though.

Looking cool:cool:

It's hard to take photos when you're flying. (excuse the rats nest, I had to bodge some bad quality cables)

Seems to be a pretty good leaf blower :)

I've got a Drift HD Action cam that I use for other things... would that be suitable for use with FPV as well by any chance or is it likely to be too heavy?

If the 125g spec I found is right for your model then yup, no problem on anything 450 size.

Haha, that's always great fun. Love it when the leaves get blown up in the air then sucked through the props and shredded :D
Mine's very good for cutting down stinging nettles too, brushed through a bush the other day and just cut them clean down and carried on flying :p

Looks a real nice quad. Think I'll definitely have to try a deadcat shaped frame some time.

OK.... so I want to get into this FPV malarky with the least amount of grief possible. I see there are some ready to fly copters around on the market now. I'm looking at the DJII Phantom RTF kit - is that suitable?

Any advice on how I convert that into FPV, is there a noob kit around?

What are quadcopters.co.uk like to deal with, any opinions?

They are great if you want a cure for dry eyes from a quick look at their prices

OK.. so any other recommendations? I have no idea what this kit should be costing!

From what I can tell, I need:

Quadcopter,
Controller,
Video Antenna and Transmitter,
Receiver and Goggles
Micro-HDMI (output from Drift) converter to RF output cable or something for the Video Tx unit?

???

I'm sure building one from scratch is fun, however I have limited spare time and just want to get going ASAP.
