Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

In the end, I used zip ties through all the bobbins and then used a combination of zip ties and Velcro to hold the mobius onto the plate, one front to back and one around the middle. I put a couple of those sticky foam fc pads at the front to create the angle under the Velcro as well as tightening down the zip ties on the back bobbins so they were compressed most of the way down. This gave a good angle and plenty security. I've stripped it down no, so no pics, sorry.

Also, I've wrapped my mobius in high viz tape, just in case. Sick of losing them now. I've lost 2!

Good call on the mobuis strips, will make it very visual.

I still laugh at the video footage of my 250 crash spent an hour cusing words at myself :p

You dont want to lose a mobius, worst tantrum ever

Finished the 250.

Now it's raining.

Typical!

Bit porky, but meh.

Itching to fly it now. The addressable LED strip is quite cool too. Imight doa little video later.....

Hey guys, I have been looking into getting into FPVquadcopters but I am having trouble choosing a frame. I have seen the TBS Gemini and the ImmersionRC Vortex but unsure if these are any good. Ideally it would be nice to have a frame that can take the fpv and a mobius camera.

Looks great Gandhi. Would you mind listing what you have?

It's basically the kit from here but I'm using the KISS 18a ESC's from here and the FPV antenna is from here . The Receiver is a FrSky D4RII.

Very nice!

Anychance of sharing your settings? I have a P3P and having a nightmare getting anything decent :(

I think Russ uses a 5D on a gimbal if I'm not mistaken!

Either would be great fun I think. Both will do FPV and I think the gemini will carry a mobius too, but not sure on that. Other alternatives are out there, but will require assembly (soldering/flashing firmware/programming etc)

I've not flown my 250 in 6 months and can't really get the motivation to get it out as it needs rebuilding and I'm then back into the never ending cycle of fiddling with it to get it to fly properly.

However, I miss flying. So I'm considering something ready built that's pre-setup and easy to fly. Seems like lots of growth in quads so can anyone recommend an all in one, ready to fly small quad? Something I can put my FPV gear on would be cool.

Myself and a few guys here are flying with the ZMR250 frame, there are loads of different manufactures making it but a good place to get a full carbon is makeitbuildit there are loads of options and upgrades out there for customizing it and it's probably the most used frame for a 250 FPV quad. If you google ZMR250 there is a 1700 page thread on RC Groups.

A good combo for the frame is:

DYS 1806 motors or similar
DYS SN20A ESC's
Naze 32 flight controller (do not get the GPS version)
Nanotech 3S 1300mah or 1500mah batteries (35-70C are best if you can find stock) also unless you want to pay double get them from hobbyking
FrSky D4R-II Rx (depending if you have a compatible Tx)
Surveilzone HS1177 camera
Video Tx / antenna depends really on what you choose for the rest of your FPV setup.
Would also probably want a PDB to keep it tidy, Diatone do a cheap one that's easy to find, the good ones like Nucleus and Ubad are hard to get unless you preorder and wait.

Looks good and durable, also looks pretty sealed so no dangers of it shorting out on wet grass etc.

Be interested to see your radio/video range with the video TX so close to your Rx. Also do you think you will have any issues with your ESC's possibly burning out being enclosed like that?

Deffo looks like an interesting build, let us know how it flies? or post some videos, would it fly like your convensional racing 250? or are these things a little less racey?

MAN DOWN :(

Lovely day at Badbury.... 1st set of batts get a few average shots. I then decide to go around the whole fort without thinking of the hill and forest in centre blocking 2.4 / 5.8GHz.

Suddenly I lost FPV video, and 3 secs later got RSSI critical followed by total loss of contact.

I followed my Flytrex Live 3G app on iPhone to last known position and as I got close I could hear a distant motor.... I ran over and she was about 20 meters up in top a tree that was impossible to climb. I managed to get radio contact back and eventually hacked it down with props..... on way down H33D and Gopro fell off into tall grass / bushes.

After a hour of hunting I was ready to give up and wife suggested buying a metal detector... as this was advice from a woman I thought it daft but headed over to maplin and bought a £60 one.

When I arrived back the metal detector found it in 30secs, still fully functional.... £60 found £600 of camera gear. Result!
