Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

im messing about with a husban h4 again and loving it getting used to it I found expert mode to be much better to control from the start.

Whats the next step up? I don't really fancy building one mainly cause i dont have a clue. Would like to strap a camera to it, go pro or something.

Experts, spec me a drone!

Budget ~£75.
For dicking around indoors, but may go outside on occasions.
FPV would be nice, but not essential.
Beginner friendly.
A decent size, 6-8", not bumblebee size.
Full kit, i.e. everything I need in one box.

Any suggestions?

Anyone suggest a selling price for this lot? Full working order.

This is a home built quadcopter - it's not an off the shelf item. Built by me last year but hardly used. I now have a Phantom 2 so this needs to go.

It's built up, flies and can carry a go pro etc - there are loads of spares I will put in including a spare motor, ESC, cables, props etc etc.

Noting that your budget went up to £200, I'd suggest you'll struggle to find something at £200 that's ideal for a beginner and dicking around indoors.

The ideal indoor models tend to be small, and light, the idea being partly that that means lower mass, so less damage (to quad, or whatever it hits) ... or pain, when it hits you.

As you increase size, you you increase weight, which means bigger heavier batteries to power bigger motors needed for bigger blades, and that can put a LOT more kinetic energy in the blades. The result then is much more damage if, or more correctly, when you hit something. Or someone.

As an absolute beginner, for indoors, you could do a lot worse than the Hubsan X4. Should be about £30-£40, including radio, and is a 4" (ish) primarily indoor toy that's actually a very good little intro quad and can be used outside providing wind is minimal. Put the rest of the budget aside towards a bigger, outdoor quad once you've grasped the basics.

If you want to go a bit more upmarket, consider Blade Inductrix. You either need the RTF (ready to fly) version if you want everything in the box, or BNF (bind and fly) which comes without radio, and then buy a separate (Spektrum) radio.

Buying a separate radio makes better long-term sense, provided you then carry on with other, larger models. But you do need to think carefully about which models you may want, as it may determine which brand, and model, of radio to buy. If unsure about buying more quads (or helis, planes, gliders etc) in the future, the RTF versions get you everything you need in the box, but the radio is pretty basic and not suitable for many other aircraft types.

From what you say, I'd suggest Hubsan X4 or Blade Inductrix RTF right now, and save the rest of your budget for a larger, outdoor model a bit later.

So what i thought was my amazon package turned up.. turns out it wasn't mine but my mrs has ordered me a Syma X5C. This will be a fairly big upgrade from my Q4.. She's at work so i won't take it out box yet but im excited to have a good mess around with it

Just got myself a used phantom 2 with FPV (black pearl/h4-3d/mini iosd) for a good price on ebay. Even came with a gigantic hard case.

Probably the worst time of year to get into it. 10 days of solid rain forecast.

Iv been tempted to go out. I can fly the f450 when its a little wet not raining, but I much prefer flying the racer but I dont want crash in to a wet ground

Stripping my quad to move to a bigger frame and im looking to upgrade the firmware on the ESC do i go to SimonK or BLheli ?? The Escs are HobbyKing 30A UBECS not to sure what to go with Can anyone help ?

I'm about to join the club - my mate's giving me his Phantom 2 Vision+. I just need a battery.

And to replace them broken gimbal...

I've been considering treating myself to a DJI Phantom 3 Professional as a christmas present :)

Before I press the buy button, is this the best option at the moment for video/photo's. I want to use it for general video but my main plan is to use it on my Iceland trip in the new year etc.

I posted a message in the photography section earlier and was pointed in this direction.

Drones Direct have an offer with the DJI Phantom 3 - Professional Edition + Free 8 Inch Tablet & Hardshell Backpack for £1159 does that sound good, anyone used them before.

I was thinking of them as I don't have a mini tablet, I have an iPhone 6s but not sure if that would be big enough.

Also anything else worth buying with it, I hear they are almost idiot proof.

For anyone who has one, how big are the video files in 4K? just thinking of what size microSD to order.

Also is it advisable to get insurance for these and if so where from?

From what I know if you are looking at one for personal use filming you won't be disappointed. I'm very tempted; but for me it will be probably not be used enough to justify it. If I had a summer vacation planned in Iceland however.... would be very very tempting! But I wonder how much I would use it after that... For professional work though it might not cut it... but that isn't what you are after so I'm sure others better informed here will give you the nod too! :)

If you are already into personal photography it sounds like a great addition to the arsenal, and at a little more than a good piece of glass, it's almost like a no brainer. Do factor in the extras though, extra batteries as you are probably going to be on the road in Iceland, and a hard case for transport on the plane.

Thanks I'm pretty sure it's what I want. Any funny you should mention it but the choice for me was a new lens or this, this is actually cheaper than the lens so maybe it is a no brainer :)
