Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Sounds good, legs will definitely be worth it for protecting the battery.
I found with mine that the trims don't really affect it much when flying unless I'm just trying hover oin self level mode. If you want the self level you'll definitely want it nailed though.
I can dig out my p/i tuning for your for reference later, similar build to yours.

Order this from Giantshark came this morning.

Feeling stupid though forgot to order a compatible reciever :D

Nice, I'm on the waiting list with T9 for mine. Let us know how you get on! :)

I asked about joining that T9 list,he told me that he had 400 pre-orders allready which put me off.

Saw giantshark had new stock arrive Thursday and just purchased one, lucky i guess.

I was on the T9 pre-order list.
I did the same as you and ordered from Giantshark. I didn't forget the receivers though. 2 x X8R. One for the Phantom and one for the F550.

Seems like a great radio. Doesn't feel as nice in the hands as a DX8 or T8J but it's got incredible functionality for the money.

I've got a lot of building to do in the next few days. My poor F550 is in pieces on the bench, minus a flight controller. My Phantom is also in pieces, minus a receiver.

To do:
F550
Fit X8R, Vsens, Altsens, Zenmuse, iOSD, CAN HUB, BTU, retracts, Naza V2
Rewire everything

Phantom
Fit X8R
Sort out gimbal wiring

I'm grounded until I get them sorted out. The Phantom will be done first so I at least have something to fly. Then I'll start on the F550.

Looking forward to playing with the iPad ground station. It should make tuning gains etc much, much easier in the field. Also looking forward to playing with the waypoints and missions.

First proper flight test today. Think I've nailed the PI tuning, but will try again tomorrow. After I've rebuilt it. Apparently, my skill level falls short of the required level at the mo. Lost orientation trying my first ever banked turn. Glad I bought a couple of extra frames now!

Yep. They were the only 3.5mm ones that either GS & HK had in stock when I did all my ordering. I also forgot to order heatshrink, so they will be coming off at some point in favour of something smaller/tidier etc.

Looks like you have the male connectors on your motors already, ebay is great for little things like this e.g.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_o...&_nkw=3.5mm+bullet+connectors+female&_sacat=0

Most of the UK sellers get them to you really quick with free shipping too.

Cheers for the heads up. Duly ordered!

Bullet connector peer pressure. Who'd have thought it :)

Have also ordered some rechargeable AA batteries for the TX. I seem to have run a set of duracells flat in 2 days!

To be fair I bought some of those connectors from Hobbyking when I built mine too. Only because it was no more expensive than the ones without the plastic bit :p

Tried out the tanaris today, bought myself a few x8r recievers.

This thing is so much better than my old Spektrum DX6i.

Love the way you can set custom channels up and timers,Ive setup a throttle timer that only starts when the throttle is above 10% anything below that it stops itself.

The speech is very usefull too saves looking at the lcd to see how long is left on the clock, just need one of those telemetry thingys now that transmits the battery voltage and other info back to taranis.

Ah! Thought it looked familiar! Still got it wrong :D

On another note, ESC's for my Tri are done and PCB board etched ready for cutting!

Got a chance to fly my quad for the first time in ages this afternoon. Been in work pretty much every daylight hour for the past 2-3 weeks and whenever I've not been it's been hammering it down!
Got 2 days off so time for some tweaking and plenty of flying!

I need to give the lended LiPo charger back soon, having difficulties finding one that fits my requirements without it shooting up in price or having other niggles.

I'm happy to pay £50-60 for a half decent one that should last a while, I don't plan to charge multiple batteries at once and don't really need any really special features. I'd just ideally like something with AC input as I'm just getting lost with DC ones trying to find suitable power supplies. If it can charge a 3S battery at around 6A I'd be well chuffed.
Seems that whilst I can find chargers that fit the bill here there is always people saying "don't buy this one" - tricky to tell what is genuine advice and what is just snobbery. I really don't see the need for £100+ chargers to charge a cheap £20 battery on a quad worth no more than £150!

Any recommendations? Ideally something in the UK and in stock!

What are you using now Floyd?

I've used one of these: Propeak Constellation and since moving out I've pinched this: ProPeak Prodigy 2 old charger off my dad which has been solid throughout it's life.

The Hyperion Range of chargers are very good but a little pricey: Hyperion Chargers
Lost of selection here: Fast Lads

Also, the iMax chargers appear to get good reviews too: IMAX B6

:) Plenty to choose from :)

I've got a Racer's Edge Surecharge 2010 off of a workmate at the moment. It's really nice, but it's also a £100+ charger that I can't even see in stock in the UK!

The imax (or one of the similar style ones from other manufactures) is what I'd been considering. I was looking to get the B6AC so I can plug it straight to the wall, but seems Hobbyking have stopped stocking that in the UK sadly. Wish the spec lists were more clear on what sort of power supply I need, ideally I'd like one with a laptop style plug straight in - which I know the GT Power chargers on Giantshark have. Seems Hobbyking doesn't specify what power supplies are compatible with which chargers too. But many of them are just a pair of cables with clips on the end which is just gonna be messy :p

I think the problem is, there are too many different chargers to chose from. Amazed at how many companies all basically rebuild the exact same charger!
