Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

I took my X4 out at about 3am in a vacant car park the other day. Those bloody LEDs are getting swapped out, I've trained my brain to equate white with the forward direction, yet the H107L has white LEDs at the back and blue at the front. Nearly lost it on a McDonalds drive through roof :p I'm blaming the wind though, was pretty gusty :p

Yeah seems the X4 is the winner kinda reminds me of my old picco-z in the fact its virtually indestructible and there is a vast modding community

When buying motors for the X4, the H107L motors are a little different (as are props) and soldering is requited, so be careful

Holy moley thats tiny!

Does anyone have simple instructions on how to trim the controls on the X4? Been struggling to get mine just to hover up without going forward and to the left :(

You can reset it by placing it on a level surface and doing the wiggly stick trick (IIRC its left stick fully down and right, and then wobble right stick left and right until the LEDs flash). If it still wanders you can prop the the corner it wanders towards up with a few sheets of paper and repeat until you get it spot on.

Any reason why you got a power distribution board and a frame with the power distribution built into the bottom plate?

Looks good other than that, it's very similar to my first quad :) what flight controller are you putting into it?

Dont know which controller to put in there was looking at the kk2.1 but not sure.

was looking at another frame and put the Power Distribution Board and the cart and then changed my mind at the last minute and forget to take it out

Cool, I started off with the KK2.0 and that was great, I'd expect the 2.1 to be better.

No worries about the distribution board, over time you'll have loads of spares and things, a $5 distro board will be a drop in the ocean ;)

The Hubsan is the tried and tested Tech and lots of info about it on the 'net in various places, also lots of spares available as you will break it at some point. Well, you will if you're doing it correctly :) I eventually made smoke come out of mine, not sure how, it was just sat on a table at the time!

I've been self gifting this month. Bought myself a new FC and TX/RX combo :) Will post pics later!

Next on the shopping list is.....

Hexa frame, motors, gimbal and NEx 5n!

still looking in to what board to buy - ive seen ones that have options alt hold , gps , follow me.

There are some very cheap deals on the DJI Naza V2 and the lite kicking around at the mo. But failing that, KK2.1 is probably the best entry level FC I think. It's easy to set up, requires practically no knowledge of electronics, soldering or coding, easy to adjust in the field when you're tuning it as it has the lcd etc. Not as expandable as others but it's also very cheap!

All the GPS gubbins is great, but I think it gets in the way of actually learning to fly the quad. Bit like learning to drive in an automatic :)
