Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

The battery on mine is https://i.uploady.uk/4kb20.jpg as there is really nowhere else for it to go!

I've not looked at what angle and horizon mode are. I just have one that enables airmode.

I think...

Angle: doesn't let you bank too far and tries to self level for you. (beginner mode)
Horizon: also doesn't let you bank too far but only around the middle of the range, hit the large deflections of the sticks and it will allow you to roll and flip. (intermediate)
Acro / rate mode: This is the default if you don't set one of the other 2 Fully acrobatic with no assistance. (Advanced)

Airmode as I understand it just allows a level of control at zero throttle by not allowing the props to slow too far. And can be set up regardless of the flight mode.

Yeah, I've been reading and found similar. Also recommended to just jump straight into rate mode, as you'll need to relearn when coming out of other modes anyway.

Going to practice on https://thedroneracingleague.com/videogame/download/ I think, given the bad weather!

This is the first 'game' my ancient PC hasn't been able to run(not tried many like)..won't even start :(

Do you use a gamepad or your transmitter?

Saw a guy flying his Mavic by the Thames opposite the MI6 HQ at lunchtime - went up pretty high and out over the river northwards towards parliament I'd guess!

So wanted to go over and give him a dressing down but thought better of it as actually no one else was even batting an eyelid.

I will go rate when I have my FPV goggles, but flying LOS I'll stick with Angle for the time being.
I've got the DRL game as well as FPVFreerider. DRL doesn't work with my Spektrum TX but does with my Walkera one. I've been using FPVFreerider to practice with as there are some good youtube tutorials using it.

I tried with a PS4 controller on my PC but it is really difficult to control with the tiny sticks. Much better with a real TX.

I've finally managed to get my quad together and into the air. Just hovering about the garden, but it all works and came back in one piece.

Excellent work :)

I've been playing with these micro, brushed FCs based on the F3 Evo: https://www.banggood.com/Eachine-DS...-PPM-6CH-Receiver-p-1091777.html?rmmds=search

ZLFbfK8.png

It's got a built in DSM2, 6-channel receiver and can take Cleanflight / Betaflight. Actually, it can take anything the F3 Evo can so I've got dRonin on one of them at the moment.
I've converted a couple of my toy quads such as a Syma X3 (also added a micro FPV set up to that too), and another that I was using the FC from a Nano QX in before. I'm going to see if I can fit it inside a Hubsan X4 when I get a chance.

They fly great and it's fantastic to have the power of Cleanflight or dRonin in an indoor quad.

You can get them with FrSky receivers too but I wanted the DSM2 version so I can control them with my Devo 7e running Deviation rather than my Taranis. I've not got the FrSky module for the 7e so DSM2 seemed like the right way to go.

Wow built in receiver too? That's awesome.

Wonder how they'd work for outdoor use?

They seem to be fine. You're just limited by brushed motors that's all.
I was flying the X3 round my garden yesterday. It gets blown around a fair bit but that's mainly because it weighs less than an empty packet of cigarettes.

Haha, yeah the x3's are hilarious, damn reliant though....Friend had one and the amount of abuse it got was amazing.

Shame about the brushed motors, would have utilised it.

What a beautiful weekend, and of course great weather to have some first shaky FPV flights. Went well and the quad is still in one piece even when I did something like this:
.

Anyone any advice on indoor quads? I want something that's FrSky compatible, prop guards, brushless (ideally), runs Beta/Cleanflight and around 70/90mm size. Looking at Eachine Turbine QX70 70mm Micro FPV atm, which looks like a Tiny Whoop clone / improve

Get that QX70. They're ace.
Don't worry about brushless for indoor use. No need and just adds to complexity. Brushed motors are fine.
