Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Does anyone have the Hubsan H501A or M? Looking for a sub £200 model to give multi rotors a go.

Other model suggestions are most welcome.

Not doing any serious photography or racing something simple to get to grips with.

If your after something simple to play about with, you cant really go wrong with micro quad, otherwise known as a Tiny Whoop (<50g).

A basic kit which includes the transmitter and FPV goggles (so you can see what the drones sees) will set you back about £150. Tiny Hawk Kit or BetaFPV 65 Kit will get you up and running. You can start out in "angle" mode which is a self stabilising mode and progress onto learning "acro" which is a fully manual mode (where you can do crazy flips and spins).

From there you can progress and upgrade as and when you feel the need for more speed. The current flavour of the month are cinedrones which are small quads with 2-3" props that can record 1080p 60fps video yet still remain relatively light <250g.

Cheers, so the Hubsan ones are no good

They are ok, they just don't offer much in the way of advancement, at least with a Tiny Hawk or BetaFPV tiny whoop kit, you can use the transmitter and fpv goggles with any other drone, providing you buy a compatible receiver. If further on down the line you fancy a more robust transmitter like the Taranis QX7 or X9D+ they are 100% compatible, likewise if you fancy trying something bigger and faster like a ready built 5" quad (Wizard X220 for example) you can, as long as you get a FrSky compatible receiver.

Recommend watching the video linked to get an idea of what the kit offers.

I highly recommend getting some extra batteries though as you'll get maybe 2-3 minutes flight time per battery.

Word of warning, FPV drones are highly addictive and you WILL end up spending a fortune :)

Are the Diatone Bull Nose Polycarbonate props any good?

I've been using Dalprops Indestructible Bull Nose (4x4.5) props on the 250 quad but need some spares ideally and struggling to find stock.

Hi all,

I've dropped in and out of this thread a little but really I have little time to use my racing quad so looking to sell (please note this isn't an advert - otherwise it'd be in MM) just wondered where the best place to sell it would be? Also how can I work out what I should be asking for it?

It's one of the old radioc prebuilt RTF FPV drones - KC215 GT, got loads of spare props, 5 batteries (3 3S and 2 4S), FS-i6 remote and a lipo charger. Also got Fatshark goggles but obviously they're a bit easier to price given it's a manufactured product.

Think I paid about £500 for most of it (excl the fatsharks) but no idea of its relative value to new or how much kit has moved on? iirc this will do 80mph straight line on 4S batteries

Thanks,
Alex

The best place to sell is probably Facebook groups. There are plenty of them dedicated to drones and FPV (Drone Junkyard, FPV racing UK etc), plus those dedicated to RC and RC flight.

I'd say £200 is probably a bit high.

I'd say £100 max for the quad itself, maybe even as low as £50 depending what gear is in there.
The TX is probably £30, charger £15 maybe (it's not one I'm familiar with).
Lipos maybe £30 for the lot, but they're tricky to post as most couriers won't take them.
Props, whatever you can get.

Thanks, appreciate the reply. I'm in the FPV Racing UK group but hadn't realized people bought/sold stuff on there also. Ideally I'd sell as a job lot but appreciate I won't get top money for it that way.

Quad was a very good spec at the time I was led to believe, just dug out my correspondence emails;
1x KC215 Frame
4x Emax 2205 Redbase Motors
4x Little Bee PRO 20a BLHeli ESCs
1x SPF3 Flight Control Board
1x Foxeer HS1190 Camera
1x Ready To Sky 200mw vTx
1x CC3D V2 PDB

The Charger is an imax b6 compact iirc.

Longer flight times I would imagine. I also went away from bullnose for HQ 5x4.3 v1's

Flight times should improve pretty well, at least an extra 30-60 seconds. I use Dal Cyclone 3052 on my Gecko and 5046 on my X220HV.

Just about to order parts to build a new quad ready for summer which will again use Dal Cyclone 5046, looking at the new Armattan Mormotte frame.
