Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Just had to post this for how mad this thing looks, flying egg that isn't too badly priced (under £400 generally) and has nice video quality.

After flying my dads phantoms around for months I’ve decided I want a mavic 2 pro, can’t decide on zoom or pro tho! Any of u guys tried both? Just not sure I would use the zoom function and the 1” sensor on the pro looks sexy

Second question, anyone tried the smart controller over the standard?

Not tried it but some reviews of it were a bit "meh", sems incredibly pricey for a controlled with an integrated touch screen.

I ended up getting a tablet adapter for my mavic as my phone was a bit too wide to fit into the standard controller without having to constantly remove the case. Can use it with a 9.7" samsung tab no problems.

Had to send my mavic pro (first version not the 2) back to dji as it was "crabbing" in flight, even when hovering it would start to slowly turn left for no reason. One guy on their forums went through 5 replacements all with the same issue before giving up and selling it on. Hopefully this replacement doesn't suffer the same issues.

Same tablet adapter as I use m8. Skyreat. Works great even with a large tablet like an iPad Air which I use.

Yup, the dji stuff is just far too expensive for some of their addons, can get a 9.7" inch tablet for £200 or less, one of their 5.5" "crystal sky" screens goes for for £450, almost a grand for one that's under 8" as well  Then you have to factor in the mounting arm which is about another £60.

thanks for the advice, gonna grab the adapter and standard controller, i have a cellular 9.7inch ipad i could use or an ipad mini if i steal the wifes ;)

Dji got my mavic pro yesterday, it's currently being "assessed for damage", even though the issue with the drone crabbing to one side constantly has been there since it was bought. Hopefully this fart assing around doesn't take long and i get a replacement out soon.

For anyone wondering this is what it's doing.

At the start of the vid you can see the gimbal slowly going left (it's the entire drone slowly rotating left), thats doing it of its own accord, and when flying you can easily tell it's at an odd angle, you're basically having to keep adjusting for the drone wanting to go left so you end up with video that is off angle, and flying it like that is really irritating.

Seems to be a common enough issue, 1 guy went through 5 replacements from dji before they just said the drone was behaving normally. 0_o

Looking at the footage that looks very irritating - hope you get it fixed.....

I'm looking at getting a mavic (my brother has had one for years and the footage he gets looks amazing).

I'd love to do the same kind of fly-bys you have done there over where I live but:

How are you supposed to do it legally? The 'drone code' says that you have to fly under 120m and yet over 150m away from built up areas and crowds - basically you cannot fly anywhere with a group of houses.... Have I misunderstood ?

50M vertically over "people and property", 150m horizontally "crowds and built up areas".

So no, you can't fly up from your back garden and over the neighborhood.

and don't forget the no fly zones all over the place.

Also from November you also need to pass the test and register.

I would expect some new models from DJI soon. The Pro 2 is approaching 12 months old, the Air is getting even longer in the tooth and there’s already been a leak about a Mavic Mini. I’ve been waiting for a revised Air and had hoped it would have emerged by now.

Mine is doing this :(

best i get the aftercare bought pronto and get it sent off.

It's a common issue in the mavics, my mavic is "under repair" according to the status which usually means they swap it out for a different unit, usually a refurbished one even though mine is barely 2 months old.

Depends on the area really, where i was flying over was pretty open so fine for the most part, that vid was basically just a quick recording so if dji asked for proof of what it was doing i had something to show. In the U.S. if a drone is equipped with a parachute you have more freedom to fly over areas like that. Whether or not that kind of ruling makes it over here is anyone's guess.

Well, seems mine is already on it's way back even though the status implies i already have it. Pretty quick turnaround though not saying much as its likely a refurb.

Picked up a mavic zoom which is an upgrade to my spark. What an improvement! Wish I’d gone for the bigger bird first time round.

Was considering the zoom or 2 when i got the original mavic pro (in hindsight i shoulda forked out the extra for one of the 2's). If you use the zoom function at 1080p it's meant to be more effective somehow or other.
