Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Anyone any experience of the (older model) dji fpv goggles? Been looking at youtube vids and they look interesting, though seen some comments saying the video quality isn't the best.

I've got a set of the original DJI ones as above for my work Phantom 4 that I'll soon by trying out with my new work Mavic 2 Pro - wirelessly this time which will be a nice improvement!

I've not found them to be bad visually (when testing them) and it's the same for anyone who's worn them when I've been flying - they've all been very impressed by them (I've not flown using them as our Ops Manual doesn't allow for it) ... for the cost you can pick them up for now they're worth a go!

Considering it, they do look a bit mad in terms of size but might be worth a look.

And on another topic, another video of the skydio 2, mental how it weaves around objects chasing a guy on a motorbike. If skynet takes over i guess this will be their HK prototype :p

This thing makes the current dji lineup look years out of date.

Holy smokes that thing looks like the dogs danglies, if it's all it's cracked up to be it's very exciting. It doesn't look as smooth as the mavic when it adjusts but my god does it have some moves! I suspect a lot of that could be coded out too, great competition.

The obstacle avoidance in this thing makes the mavic 2 looks like it's steam powered, at least in terms of its agility. Seems to adjust to situations really quickly whereas the mavic is much slower in that respect.

Having had a Mavic 2 and also a small fleet of custom built drones, if your after a flying camera then the Mavic Pro (none 2) will be more than enough, if your budget allows go for the Mavic 2, but bare in mind they hold their value really well.

If on the other hand you want fun then I'd consider looking at FPV, you can easily build a digital fpv system using the DJI goggles on a micro 3" quad for less than you'd pay for second hand Mavic 2. Not only would it be incredibly fun and fast but it also records in 1080p 60fps direct to sdcard on the drone and goggles.

Alternatively a basic analogue setup can be had for ~£300 Chuck a GoPro on it and your golden.

The talk of FPV has piqued my interest. I have a small Blade quad with Spektrum DX6i sat in a cupboard, I can sort of fly it, easy if it's facing away from me. With a screen or googles I think I'd do much better. Before the quad I had a collective pitch heli that was even more difficult. I have flown a Mavic, very nice and easy. But something small, fast and manouverable could be fun.

Where should I start looking, is my Spektrum DX6i of any use? I don't mind throwing a few hundred quid at something if it will be fun. I also like to get quality things, so if more money is needed I will always consider upping my budget.

Thanks in advance.

Edit - the EMAX Babyhawk R Pro 4" looks a lot of fun for not too much money.

Take a look at Sabotage RC which are made by Armattan Quads, its a sort of sister company offering cheaper prebuilt freestyle quads.
Saying that though parts that are used for the cheaper quads are the same as armattan quads, nice thick carbon fibre.

Ive crashed my dingo quad enough and i havent managed to break anything yet.

Well I now have a SkyRC Sparrow 120, Jumper T16 and Fatshark Attitude V5 and no idea what I am doing!

I have installed Cleanflight and I'm connected to the quad, I've connected the receiver but not sure how to bind it.

Edit TX binding done and controls mapped. Now to connect the goggles.

Edit 2 - goggles connected. Been doing some more setup in clean flight. I'm making progress.

Would it be wrong of me to say switch to Betaflight?
Cleanflight was overtaken by betaflight a while ago and I'm not sure Cleanflight is even developed anymore.

I'm not sure, they did a tweet a year ago.

Maybe after I know what I'm doing. I still haven't spun any notors up yet.

Just been sorting the goggles, the lenses I got gave me double vision, I got an old pair of glasses and cut the lenses down, seems to be better now.

I don't know what I need to do next.

Make sure the little picture of the quad moves in the same direction as you move the real quad.
Make sure your arm switch moves the correct mode slider.
I would say make sure you have a flight mode switch so you can change to angle and acro.
On the motors tab make sure the correct motors spin up when you.move the sliders. NO PROPS.

Finally. Put the quad away and plug your tx into your PC and try a sim for a while!

Oh and I've got inserts in my goggle as I'm short sighted.

Ok I think my ARM switch is wrong, when I press the SH switch, which doesn't stay, this activates my AUX 1 & 2.

So if I hold this switch then I can spin the motors, but I'm not sure why this is and how I fix it.

None of the other switches make anything else move on the screen in Cleanflight.

Edit - Might have found the problem, hadn't set them in the TX.

Yeah you've got to set up your tx to output the mixes to to the channels.

As to the spinning of the props. There could be a few things. Throttle low position too high, airmode enabled, angle or horizon mode and the quad not being flat.

Thanks, it was just because the ARM switch wasn't working.

I think all I have to do now is work out where to stick the receiver module and where it's little antenna wires should go. I'll take a pic.

This is exactly what the consumer drone industry needs, competition.

Problem is they're really not competition, their assembly and production line is tiny. Its practically 1 room of people making them so their output is pretty limited. They already stopped taking orders for the remainder of this year and aren't taking any more till 2020 at some point.

Had they a larger production line they could do.some damage no doubt.
