Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Here's a reasonable build for a kick off:

DJI F450 kit - £131 (includes frame, motors and ESCs) or F550 kit (£232) if you fancy a hex rather than a quad
Turnigy Nano-tech 5000mAh 4S lipo
FrSky Taranis transmitter - £180 (includes X8R receiver)
DJI Naza-M V2 - £191 (get this rather than the Lite as you can't add items such as the iOSD or Zenmuse with the Lite)
Decent, cheap LiPo charger

You can get the Naza-M V2 with the F450 and F550 as a package if you want to save some money.

Cool cheers. I will take a look in to those :) was hoping the prices would be a bit lower but I guess maybe not, I can always shop around

Got the FPV gear earlier, have to say I'm very impressed with the monitor - nice build quality and it seems to work fine with the ImmersionRC tx so far!

Had to bodge an old camera from a cheap dvr to test it though as they forgot to send the Pilot HD, which they're sending at cost to me special delivery.

There's no lag at all with that dvr camera funnily enough so if the lag on the Pilot HD is really that bad it'd make a decent backup!

Flytrex Live 3G fitted and works great.

Popped in a Giffgaff PAYG SIM with £5 500MB Gigabag goodybag and worked out the box. Just hotglued Flytrex to Landing skid. Got real time display on position and stats on PC and iPhone while was in air.

4min flight eat around 70Kb data, so 500MB data plan is probably way over the top as I don't fly much.

Jobs a goodun :)

Box is a little bigger than I thought. Looks good though.

Lisapete, have a look at makeitbuildit. They have several cheap 250mW video transmitters. A Black Pearl is my recommendation for a monitor. That's all you need. Oh, and you can get cables that go straight from the GoPro to the vTx so the only soldering you need is to power the vTx. Just check that the cable you buy has the power and video leads the right way around. Immersion wire things differently to cheapo Boscam stuff.

I have Zenmuse H3-3D which I'm using to get the video off the Gopro

The Hubsan Q4 Nano is only 17 quid with free postage at ****** :)

Edit: wut? I thought OcUK stopped sensoring competitors?

Well I've spent about 30 mins with my Syma X4 (one of the cheapest fun items I got today!)..

I think it's a perfect entry level quadcopter, I am slowly getting to grips with flying it indoors, and think it'll be the cheapest way to 'practice' before deciding if I can manage a 450 or similar..

My issue is one of co-ordination. Normally with anything motorised I'm fine, but the whole hand-eye coordination does not come naturally, so often am over-compensating or just plain old dis-orientated and making things worse rather than better!

Still, happy with the Syma as a throw-away mess-around thing, I've been hovering it around the kitchen and landing it on glass cutting boards, then taking off and moving to the next one..

I'm glad I bought some 260mAH batteries and a micro-losi converter so I can use the overlander charger to get my a constant stream of batteries! (12-15mins charge time at 4C).

So thanks to all the advice in this thread! I hope your christmas quads are bringing you as much fun!

Just bought my self a case for the F550. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281535890470?_trksid=p2060778.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

Here is someone using it with the same setup as my self.

I got it for £80.23 delivered ($75 offer on the product). My misses then said what did I want for my 30th (end of feb) and said you could pay me back for this. So she's ''bought'' me the case.

Decided I'd joined the Facebook F550 owners group and after asking for some advice a member has sent me a brand new DJI CanBus Hub for free.

Grabed a DJI BTU for the bling, wow factor and maybe proof of concpet for £36 delivered http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261633636613?_trksid=p2060778.m2749.l2648&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

Now to find stickers for my case. Any ideas?

We got my eldest daughter a Hubsan X4 and some spares for Christmas and she has been having a lot of fun with it. Its a nice little machine and quite fun to hover about inside and out. Now its calibrated properly its a fair bit easier to fly as well. Glad I got the blade guards thou.

Demon can you please advise what batteries and charger you have? I have the same quad and have loved it so far, however the 1 battery it came with, and 60+ minute charge time is spoiling my fun!
