I meant the price point. The 200qx RTF would be better to match and beat a 250 DIY ;)

The firmware update on my 350qx went fine by the way, still need to test here out but its very windy here right now :(

I just bought a parallel board for mine and it takes ages to charge as it's only a 50w charger, need something with a lot more powerful for parallel charging.

Ah ok, thought you meant feature wise. I've been looking at the 200QX as been offered one for £140 BNF.

Hope you have fun with the new firmware :)

It's usually advised to charge lipos at 1C max (or a little more on some batterys) to maintain good battery health.

So 1C on a 5000Mah 4S you will use on the 550 is 5 Amps... so 40A per port is overkill.

If you are planning on parallel charging multiple packs on a single port it's a really bad idea, as with bigger packs they need to be balanced. All packs being parallel charged also need to be similar charge state before charging. You can get away with this on a small 1S pack, but 4S large capacity... 1 battery per charger port.

Maybe I'm wrong though lol.

I charge with two little X100 touchsceen 6A chargers (built in AC), £35 each.

edit: I'd be wanting a charger to perform sexual favours while waiting for £250 :D

I went for the Taranis as although it was a little more costly than the likes of the Turnigy transmitters, I've heard nothing but good things about them. Also, when you look at a £70 transmitter, add the price of a battery, charger, receiver, module, you're not far off that price.
 
Another vote Taranis (with X8R), best radio for the buck :), every feature you could ever want or need. (it's worth the extra for RSSI signal strength readings alone)

Go for a Taranis, I cancelled my order for one as I was tight on cash. I ended up with a Turnigy 9XR I have now bought a frsky telemetry display which sits on top (looks dumb), FBSV01 volatge reader, DJT module, battery, case etc. Almost works out the same cost as buying the Taranis and nowhere near as good is it.

Yep, but you will want mode 2 (throttle and yaw on the left)

You can swap it over but it involves opening the case and fiddling with the gimbals!
 
morning all, received my HJ Alien 500 frame last night (TBS Discovery clone) and put it together, however the screws that came with it are junk. Their 2mm allen head with a smooth section at the top then a tight thread. I almost rounded the first one just making sure it was in tight so I would like to replace them with something a bit more durable.

Any ideas where I would get a suitable screw from?

Where's the cheapest place in the UK to buy Fat Shark goggles and associated FPV kit? Hobby King are cheapest, but only in the International warehouse which has the strong possibility of getting 20% + fees added to it.

Parallel charging is fine, there are plenty of blog posts (like this one) and forum threads about on the subject and many people do it. It lies between non-balance charging and individually balance charging batteries, in terms of how good it is for batteries, though closer to balance charging end of the scale. It's also light years safer and better than series charging packs.

As with all charging methods it's good practice to charge batteries individually every 5 or so charges to fine tune the balance of each cell but that's a small price to pay for the massive time savings.

You're right about the state of charge, though it's generally accepted +-20% is fine, what I tend to do is use a multimeter to test the each pack's voltage and charge batteries in groups of similar charge level.

Taranis are great controllers with lots of features, but if you want something OK and very cheap, the OrangeRx T-Six are cheap as chips and I've been flying my 250 FPV with them no problem.
