Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

You can get a Naze32 pre soldered from some places.

But for a cheap and cheerful one you can't go wrong with a KK2.1.5. I even fly my 250 on default settings a lot of the time. The screen is really helpful too, although difficult to access in a small 250.

I will look out for pre-soldered one, although KK2.1.5 is a bit big for the 250's or just fit?

Cool aslong as it fits ok in the 250 frame I am looking at and not so cramped that its hard to connect stuff, I will probably go for that

The standard 50mm KK fits that frame just. The frame is 50mm wide and the gap between the central pairs of posts is about 60mm.

But they also now do a KK mini which is on a 35mm board.

Coming up with this list so far, want to keep the kit cost down if possible

Aslong as it fits, thats all that matters, the mini is an extra £10, which rams the price up slightly.

Looks good.

Do you have batteries? Also the wiring will need either a breakout cable or you will need to solder up a power distribution board.

Plus buy extra bolts and nuts and cable ties and tape.

I have cable ties and tape, extra bolts and nuts? may need to come to that when I find out what ones they are, and if any are needed.

Dont really have any expereince with the power on these? with DJI kits they just solder to the bottom plate.

If I can get around delivering power and connecting everything without soldering, this would be better, if it needs to be soldered on to a power dist board then not sure what would be best

Battery I will account for later, need to look at reccomended types and power for this scale

Your battery will likely have an XT60 connector. I struggled to find an XT60 to 4x 2mm banana plug Breakout cable so bought a JST one and lopped the end off and souldered an XT60 on. That's all the soldering I did though, the rest pushed together as the Afro ESCs and the DYS motors have 2mm bananas, and the KK comes with pins.

My extra nuts were for the larger spacer kit and also some nylocs to replace the prop nuts on the DYS motors as they can come lose and fire a prop off mid flight :(

The lipo I bought for my 450 I had to lop off the end and solder XT60's on

What rating is your battery, 3S ????mah?

That sounds good, I may still wait until payday on the 25th to do this, or may order some of the bits early. Depends how fast a certain person pays me for some work I done yesterday

I run 1300mah 3S. anything between about 1000 and 1800 is fine, you just gain weight with capacity so the result is broadly similar flight times.

My quads got a bit lardy now I've added FPV but it still has decent times.

Cool ta for the info, I might find medium ground on the battery

Would you reccomend breakout cables or a solder dist board? for power

I have followed this thread for the last few months and think this is awesome!
I am planning to do a school project with some students at my school in making their own quad copters, think it will be good for getting their interest up in programming/engineering!

Does anyone have any advice on what to go for? I have seen a few of the pre-made kits but would like a self build project. Don't want anything too big or complex. Any advice would be much appreciated!
Thanks in advance

I just made a wiring harness for mine with some spare cable I had. You could order some cable and do it yourself as well

I'd not bother with a power board on a 250 as you have limited space

I'm a ham fisted oaf so bought a breakout cable to avoid as much soldering as possible.

Plus as howler said on a 250 flexible wires are easier to package than a PDB.

New white arm fitted to the DJI F450. Nice and easy :)

Should have 4 spare white legs coming tomorrow to stick in the box. And then aftermarket skids should arrive Friday so I can fit it over the weekend

Yep true, OK breakout cable it is then :)

Is this what im going to need?
http://www.hobbyking.co.uk/hobbykin...r_ESC_Power_Breakout_Cable_UK_Warehouse_.html

or is it 2.5mm? I cant find any XT60 to 2.5mm

Do the motors and ESCS come with banana connectors then?

The DYS motors and Afro ESCs come with banana connectors. I don't know about the other motors or ESCs.

They are 2mm connectors so you will need to buy a 4 way cable with 2mm connectors and then cut the end off and replace it with an XT60. Most 2mm cables will have a JST or XT30 end.
