Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

I'm using a Turnigy 9XR pro and FrSky DJT 2.4Ghz Combo Pack for JR w/ Telemetry Module & V8FR-II RX. Works fine with my very limited knowledge and skills so far.

The main reason it's good is how configurable it is. You've got 2 gimbals, 2 sliders, 2 knobs, 6 3-way switches, 1 2-way switch and 1 sprung switch. All controls can be mapped to any of the channels.
The receivers are cheap and excellent too. The X8R can be set up with 8 x traditional outputs, or 16 x s-bus, or 8 x traditional + 8 x s-bus.
The gimbals are pretty high quality too and very precise.

What are the Devo transmitters like with the built in fpv?
The 4 channel one which leaves nothing for anything interesting is very cheap. Even the 12channel one is only £220.

I had a Devo 10, worked fine but upgraded to Taranis. It does everything better in every way.... not sure about FPV models

Would need to be second hand, but ill look.

Why is it so good? In reality I'm only going to be flying a 250 and a tri, and don't plan on adding loads of bells and whistles. The only reason I'm upgrading is because my current transmitter only supports a single model and it's own receiver.

If you are only looking at 6 channels, then spektrum prices for a DX6i are around £60-70 new, however your limiting yourself to only 6 channels, for 7 or 8 channel Spektrums for instance its starting to get in to the £130-£140 price bracket (or sometimes more).

I picked up my taranis transmitter for £150 odd quid new, so not that much more! add an extra £20-£25 for the reciever.

You are getting a lot of radio for the same region of money you would be paying for a 7-8 channel spektrum

What do you need all the other channels for? Or is it just for future upgrades, like camera gimbal?

Flight mode switches, failsafe, extra stuff light light switching, camera controls, gimbal, what ever you want really.

I would rather have the option of having spare channels, then saying you dont really care about the extra channels, but then getting hooked on the hobby more wanting to expand and play around with different things, and have to go and buy a new radio because you only have one spare channel

For a 6 channel radio ok fair enough, you would probably save a bit but limit yourself, if your happy with that then great, iv seen youtube videos of people flying with 6 channel, but if your going for 7+ channel radios, then why not just buy a taranis?

It is also packed with more features.

Yeah it feels like a half decent control board with GPS is already going to push you beyond 6 channels. Adding a camera with any sort of control adds more.

I use 5 just flying my 250 alone.

Dam you guys talking me into spending money :p

My spare set of non official DJI white legs have arrived, they will do the job, but not as much movement in the legs than the official ones.

And also my black landing skid kit from ebay.

For all those considering a 250 build:

http://www.radioc.co.uk/Diatone-Silver-Blade-Glass-Fiber-250-Frame-p/1030.htm

Get in quick, cheap, silver, has PDB built in.

Will be a little heavier than the CF versions but should still be plenty strong enough!

That is tempting

I just checked a carbon fibre frame (ZMR 250) and thats apparently Weight: 145g (with screws) I probably wouldnt go down the route of soldering though, I would probably just use breakout cables

Although saying that the carbon fibre one is around £24 the lowest price I can find, so not that much more

Went ahead and bought that frame. Looks really nice and like that it includes the PDB. Don't have the money for the rest of the gear but might as well save a few quid on a frame now.

I may do the same, I probably wont go down the route of soldering to a PDB, however its good that thats there as an option anyway, but will probably still go ahead with breakout cables instead.

As I mentioned earlier the weight of the carbon fibre similar version I found was 145gms, this silver one is 120gms

Yep pretty sure they are the same, I paid roughly the same amount for them

They differ from the official DJI ones, but then again the official DJI ones are like £10 for the pack.

I bought a new pack of spare ones as I had a slight mishap and had a motor cutout mid flight, it dropped, cracked one of the legs, and one of the hex screw threads on one of my white arms become questionable

So new official replacement white arm = £3

set of 4 legs ~ £3.50

and I bought the black landing skids as an upgrade

That was quite a hard landing though, and was a vital thing which I didnt think would happen, even with intelligent motor settings set in Naza, it still does the motor cut out if you do the left stick bottom right, right stick bottom left position (same position to start the motors)

I expect it will be the same as most 250 frames and fit a KK in the middle fine. Attached with some sticky foam pads though, as the mounting holes won't be there for 50mm boards (not a problem, and actually adds some vibration dampening).
