Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Django, is it worth the upgrade to an inspire?? I have just a phantom at the moment. I notice you have 2! Greedy? Haha

It depends on what you want from your craft.
Do you want the ability to run dual operator?
Do you want the ability to swing the camera around 360 degrees independently of the craft?
Do you want an HDMI output on your transmitter for adding HD goggles etc?
Do you want a craft that absolutely looks the business?

If the answer is yes to any of those, then the Inspire is your craft. If you're not bothered about them then get a Phantom 3 Pro. It has the same camera as the Inspire and uses the same app. It also has the same sonar and optical positioning system.

For anyone who has that fpv sim, its had an update apprently,

im going to re-try it on the weekend

There has been an improvement and upgrade to the sim here http ://fpv-freerider.itch.io/fpv-freerider if you allredy have the full version its a full its a free upgrade,Marty and the borrowed doggie

I might have a crack at that then. I can't get it to work with my Taranis over USB and haven't had the time to mess about with the channels. Windows sees the Taranis as a USB joystick and the numbers jump around on the stick calibration screen, but all that happens is that the quad acts like it has a DJI FC and just flies away with no control :D

Thanks DJMK4 for the update, just tried it out and the settings are a really nice additional, even includes camera angle and FOV. Just hope for some more maps now and time trials.

Cool, will see how I get on, on the weekend, I didnt have no luck with my taranis on it, I got it just about controllable, but It was nowhere near fine and just generally felt rubbish, iv tried my own customer mixers, and also ones from people that apparenly work, but it flies out of control on mine

I could only get my taranis controller to work by plugging in audio lead from the training port on the tx to my mic port on the laptop, and then running software called "smartproplus"

I tried my 12-1 USB dongle, some people mentioned it should work in there, but the channels were jittering when you tried to cal, and also USB in the back of the taranis straight in to the laptop would do the same.

Hopefully some things are fixed.

I would imagine they will keep releasing updates, its early days

Hah, they're not both mine. But yes, as above, The P3 (which I also have) is a great craft, especially for those looking to get a handle on the hobby. It's as close to an Inspire as you'll get without the $$$.

***EDIT** its on the previous page sorry, I don't follow this thread, I will leave it for those who might not have seen it.

Have you guys seen this?

Lilly Camera

Lily is the world's first throw-and-shoot camera. It lets anyone create cinematic footage previously reserved for professional filmmakers. Lily is waterproof, ultra-portable, and shoots stunning HD pictures and videos

Yep been posted above, although there is probably a market for it, I would imagine ski resorts wouldnt want those things flying around for health and safety reasons, also, its been said that footage in the advert is not from that device, as to get that smoothness, it would need a gimbal.

Its essentially a flying camera, nothing more, I guess its a cool concept though, but I would want the ability to override and control it, until I see hard evidence of its performance and real camera footage, im going to sit on the fence :p

Argh, still no luck getting this sim working properly

To clarify

I have tried connecting with various methods, but lets for arguement sake say im using the USB cable from the taranis to the laptop, which I am.

New Model

Internal RF off
Slave

Inputs

Throttle: weight 50, offset 50
Aileron: weight 50, offset 50
Elevator: weight 50, offset 50
Rudder: weight 50, offset 50

Go in to windows control panel, frsky controller, move the controls around, move the aileron and throttle controls for instance, the + in windows moves, but the red bar doesnt, which I think it should, its not even registeirng the movement. Move the elevator and rudder, and those do - tried resetting to defaults and calibrating in windows, not sure if this is done right as the calibration wizard in windows is rubbish.

Go in to the game, try calibration there, it registers the movements, complete the calibration and go in to the game, its all over the place, so following the pdf before, I am going to have to start amending the weight/offset, to probably most likely get a half controllable 250 quad

Cant really spend anymore time on this tonight trying to get it working.

What OpenTX version you using and what version of Windows?

Interestingly I've had an offer to use mine from someone at work but alas I doubt I'll be able to - the H&S hoops we'd have to jump through before anything legal or otherwise (CAA license) got considered alone would make it pointless!

Might be time to take it more seriously and get my license if this interest proves genuine.

Hoorrah my standoffs have arrived, which means I can get on rebuilding my diatone in its new frame today, and stick the escs in the bottom of the frame.

also some batteries for my bixler, £7 each posted

If your motors and esc's are up to the power draw you could go 4s but 3s would probably be safer. You will get more power but less flight time.

There is a plus side to your props breaking you know, it means that a lot of the force and stress of a crash is moved off of the motor directly, like using carbon props is only really advisable if you aren't hitting things all the time as they are so much stiffer.,

I guess your right there

Just checking out these spacers on my 250 quad, ordered the 5mm ones, had to use 2 washers but the escs JUST fit underneath, tight though and some of the middle of the bottom plate you can see the shape is not 100% flat.

The 10mm ones would have doubled the height of the gap, which probably wouldnt have been that great.

I tell you what I have an abundance of mate, nylon spacers form my props, they are 2.5mm high and around 7.8mm wide with a m3 hole in the middle, trust me your address and I will post a few over. will make yours a total of 7.5mm.
