Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

I tell you what I have an abundance of mate, nylon spacers form my props, they are 2.5mm high and around 7.8mm wide with a m3 hole in the middle, trust me your address and I will post a few over. will make yours a total of 7.5mm.

Cool cheers fella that would be great if you have.

Im going to order some slightly longer m3 screws too as the ones I ordered to do this job are just on the limit.

Will trust over now. I have 2 screws per arm

This is what I am playing with space wise at the moment.

Anyone using their TX in sims via an audio cable + SmartProPlus and vJoy? I can't seen to get it working. SPP sees the stick movements fine, but I can't get the vJoy virtual USB gamepad device to be seen properly. I can't calibrate it either. Sure I am doing something daft but if anyone has any experience before I buy a USB adaptor, I'm all ears.

TH9X B (aka Turnigy 9X), ER9X and Windows 10 64 btw

I'm sure the cable is fine (it's stereo) because SPP is seeing the correct movement. The app even has the option to listen to L/R channels

I used to use it, but for Phoenix and other sims now I use my selectable USB, I tried smartproplus on this fpv sim but it didnt solve my issue

Early morning test of H33D gimbal, quite a lot of jello and the first try of medium FOV created a lot of noise from the crop.

Back to the drawing board...

Eaak, glad it's ok.

Loving the scenery, the water looks great.

Make sure you have your battery warnings calobrated correctly especially if your flying over water.

:)

Yeah got a long pre-flight check list created after reading all the horror stories on the dji forums :p

30% warning gives me way more than enough time to get her back home safely.

A few shots from my weekend flying in Wales.

Managed to lose my Hubsan H107. It took off on a gust of wind and I lost orientation. Last I saw of it, it was heading off down the valley. Sad as it was my very first multicopter.
Also managed to crash my little 250. It throw a prop while I was doing a flip - probably didn't check they were tight enough - and took a dive. No damage apart from all 4 (3?) props and one landing leg. Had it up in the air again 20 minutes later.

The Inspire flew magnificently all weekend. I must have flown maybe 30 packs through it and it never missed a beat. Utterly superb bit of kit and it makes me wonder why I bother with my S900.

Whereabouts where you in Wales Rilot?

Love that first picutre.. don't recognise it though!

Edit: That Inspire looks seriously impressive!

Looking to get my first drone, sadly I don't have the time to build it myself so was thinking of the Phantom 3 Advanced. Would it make a good entry point or should I start a bit lower (or higher)?

I can get it for about $1400NZD (~700 quid), I don't mind spending a bit more if there is another model I should consider.

They don't take a huge amount of time to put together what takes the most time is watching how to videos on YouTube and tinkering with it when they're not in the air

Yeah, wind back 10 years and I would already have a heap of parts in the post but with a family and a 60-70 hr/week job I can't really get the time :( (I should add that having a family is awesome but boy it sucks up a lot of your time!!)

I installed a openlog data logger last week on my quad and being the first time I have had any time or decent weather to fly I thought I would give it a go. Blackbox is a very cool feture and should help refine future tuning immensely.

Still a little to windy really.

I'm starting to think I'm jinxed.

Found a lovely new field at the park yesterday for FPV. Got there, set everything up. Lovely sunshine, little wind. Plug battery in. Balls, the FPV camera is knackered. Just shows no picture now so I can only assume something broken somewhere. Have peeled off all the waterproofing and no sign of any damage, so must be a component somewhere busted.

So out of 4 craft I am now down to;

1 Hexa fully functional but out of 5045 props, so down to 5040 now and on the Sunnysky 2204's it will be a bit underpowered I think.

1 Hexa I can't fly due to unresolved technical problem with FC

1 H quad - Needs repairing and CBA at the mo

1 f330 quad - repaired last night but not the most fun thing to fly. I'd sell it if I thought it was worth anything!

Current shopping list:

More props
2x new FPV cameras
1x new DYS BE1806
6x ESC's capable of running blheli 13 or a flashing tool so I can flash my current emax ones!

The Eachine VTX and camera I ordered off bangood was pretty good, the camera is ok as a spare, but the VTX seems great.
