Murder of 87 year old in the street

At 44 I'm guessing it was the voices that told him to do it, he will get detained for life in a secure unit and we will have another enquiry into the failings that allowed this to happen....AGAIN

I’ve never put anyone higher or lower in a hierarchical sense. It’s not racist to point out facts but that’s the problem with crime. Stopping the usual suspects upsets people for some reason. Even though they’re more likely to stab someone over any other ethnic group.

That's rot and you know it is, why do you post such hyperbolic nonsense? AFAIK the current tariff for murder by knife if the perpetrator is over 18 is 25 years and the judge may recommend that the whole term is served before parole can be considered particularly if the individual continues to claim innocence.
On the other hand a judge may confer a whole life tariff for a crime as disgusting as this.
Nobody guilty of a vile crime like this would be out in 5 years.

Why though? It's proven to be expensive and ineffective as a deterrent. The only reason for being pro-death penalty is if you look at it from emotional standpoint of wanting revenge... and whilst wanting revenge is somewhat natural it's clearly not a particularly good reason for the death penalty to exist.
 
The cost of electric today would be a very expensive punishment and wasn't hanging the choice for the UK?

I'd force them to watch Loose Women all day.

Expensive? :confused: Murder is murder. You take someones life you deserve your own taken. 100%

Forgive me if I'm wrong but when people say the death penalty is more expensive Vs life in prison they are only talking about initial prosecution costs, they don't take into account the economic cost of a prisoner serving time in jail.
