Murray in Form

Murray will smash the records set by Henman and Greg, without a doubt. Will he add a grand slam to his record - surely only a matter of time!

I'd like to think so too!

I mean Murray is fantastic and his double handed backhand is so accurate at times its scary!

His record this year is fantastic but a word of warning for all over the next coming months.....DONT EXPECT GREAT THINGS!

The clay court season is upon us and as Pat Rafter said in the coverage last night there is a lot of Unknown players out there who are brilliant on the clay courts and have totally mastered it.

Murray will do well to gain as many points as he can on that surface as his injuries have mostly occured round about this time throughout his career. Lets hope he can get to Number 3 in the world before Wimbledon.

Very true, I am hoping that he can produce something at the US Open and take a grand slam, I'm not sure how I feel about Wimbledon for him.

One of the bbc commentators said before the final yesterday "if Murray wins the final he will be considered by most of the dressing room to be World No 2" ( it was on the txt as it happened, so should still be available)

Says it all really ;)

Well that is through the demise of Roger recently in the tournaments he's played in. He can be considered No.2 in terms of form right now but unfortunately he is still No.4!

He has however closed the gap to Novak to a miniscule 170 pts I believe and this can change in the space of one tournament. If Novak hadnt made the final yesterday for example Murray would have eclipsed him with his win.

Murray himself however has stated several times this year that he would like to finish the season as World No.1! It's possible but he'd have to put in a mammoth effort and win some grand slams for such a change.

The way Fed is playing at the moment No.2 could be a pretty decent aim.

Though I do have Roger Federer E/W @ 6/1 to make the French Open Final again this year. Nadal is unstoppable on clay so he'll not win it hence the E/W bet! The thing is though in the Slams you can get great odds on Fed. I took him £10 @ 4/1 to win the US Open last year as you just dont get odds like that on that man!

Unfortunetly it was in the one match Murray would have given anything to win!

and this is it, he is yet to do it when it really matters thus far.

lots of players win tournaments and achieve high rankings but winning a slam is a totally different propositition.

and since then Murray has beaten him at every attempt - I know which player I would prefer to be when they next meet, and its NOT the one with the more titles under his belt.

Its a crock of **** that it makes a difference what level they play at - if its the same players on the opposite side of the net they both want to win just as badly

Fed wants us to believe he plays differently if its an ATP final or a Grand Slam final - yeah right hahaha

True as well, I just hope that Murray dosent fall into a mental block, he really needs to get one under his belt as soon as possible.

I just can't see him making an impact on the clay season - I think playing through it without injury would be a big boost, and service him well for a proper go at the US Open.

He wont thats the thing....people need to realise its a difficult surface.

For 2 months of the season you have players from all over the place you've never heard of beating players you wouldnt never expect them too all because of the change of surface.

What Murray has going for him is his Speed and Stamina which is fantastic and should stand him in good stead for decent assault on clay. The much tougher surface really does make you work harder and becomes harder for movement.

Positives as mentioned is that he doesnt have many points to defend at this point of the season so any good results could prove to be very fruitful for him.

Will be an interesting couple of months in the rankings.

AM did spend a lot of his youth in Spain (which has a lot of Clay courts doesnt it?)

I agree though - his best results arent usually on clay

Yes he did however he trained on Hard Courts....thats why he see's the US Open as his best chance for a major!

Well the Rome Masters 1000 is well underway and he has reached the Quarters :) He will be taking on Davydenko later on today in his 2nd match! He had to finish his match with Fognini this morning so he will be happy he got through in the 2 sets and shouldnt really effect his performance later on.

Hopefully he can reach the semi's and play the master on clay.....RAFA! Any point he picks up is really going to put him close to Djokovic now who really has a fight on his hands to keep 3rd spot. Would appear to just be a matter of time however with Murray defending little points.

BTW does anyone hate Novaks blue trainers or is it just me? lol

Unfortunately not as Djokovic is into the Semi's already, so Murray wont win any extra points at all - and could concievably loose a few as AM is unlikely to beat Nadal while ND has a decent shot at getting to the final

(ND retired in the Semi's last year)

Its probably a marginal change either way - but would expect ND to come out on top from Monaco

Yeah after todays result your right it does look unlikely!

I think the main thing for Murray is that he isnt really protecting many points these coming months so this QF at least will do him no harm at all!

I have to say tho Wavrinka looked really good on the clay today and could maybe sneak into this final. He really dealt with Fed with not too much difficulty yesterday. Not that I expect him to get past Novak however.

Oh yeah on the ATP website they have Nadal No1 and Murray No2 in the performers so far this year, il look up the article on it.

*EDIT*

They just said it on SS there before the Murray match that if Novak went out today and Murray won then he would have went to Number 3 due to points lost by Novak and points gained by Andy, I think it will happen in the next few weeks! If Fed doesnt pick up his game soon even he could be a realistic target but he does have a habit of getting to every major final!

*FURTHER EDIT*

Murray through the semi to play Nadal tomorrow, he beat Davydenko 7-6, 6-4 ! Had some trouble late on due to the blister by the looks of it but recovered well....hopefully shouldn't have too much impact on tomorrow as he is in for a rough time.

Djokovic leads Murray by 170 pts at the minute

He is defending 450 pts in Monte Carlo, which is a Semi Final. If he looses in the semi's he will not gain or lose any points overall.

Murray was defending 150 pts from his last 16 appearance last year. He now has 450 guaranteed. If both he and Djokovic lose in the Semis, Murray will be world number 3, overtaking Djokovic by 130 pts. Djokovic has to reach the final at least to keep his place.

Unfortunatley i don't think Wawrinka will beat djok

Decent performance against Nadal to take him to a tiebreaker in the second but still a long way to go to even threaten him on clay.

First set was a bit of a whitewash - but 2nd set was pretty amazing consiering its Nadal's favoured court type and Masters event

Murray could easily become as hard to beat on this surface as he is already on nearly any other given that showing

Is it also true that AM has lost a huge amount of weight in the last few weeks - an offline article I was reading stated something like 10-20lbs in the last few weeks has been lost which seems like a gigantic amount
