MX-5 Project log thread

Looks good howard,

I am going with the Koni Sports, FM rear tops and P5 bump stops.

But i may hold off a few months to save up for the bushes and have them all done in one.

949 racing does a full bush set delivered for under £200, or £250 with diff and arb bushes.

Cool :) I believe I've been provided with the standard bumpstops as part of this kit. One day I might Polybush everything. Not right now though!

Mike: 8 months. :(

Yeah you have them, they are £50 on there own, did you get the M2 hats?

Wait a sec! Why haven't mine arrived yet!?

*cries*

Have you been waiting 8 months?

Email Phil i'm sure he can give an ETA.

I've been pestering Phil weekly since December :D :D

Yeah I have the mk2 topmounts :)

Just been going through the huge pile of bits to make sure it's all here etc.. seems to be. I have no idea how it all goes together yet, mind :D

aproctor and Howard,

I would recommend going for Fat Cat Motorsport ones, only cost me £60 delivered from USA for a set and they are better than the ones sold by P5. You would want to use 36mm front and 46mm rear really for the P5 suspension setup.

I've emailed FCM and he said they are not suitable on the FM top mounts.

FM top mounts? You mean NB top mounts, and I know loads of people using NB top mounts with FCM bump stops, I don't see where the issue would be.

The setup is different in the top mount area between the sportdrive and Howards looking at more close up pics of his suspension.

No i mean the FM top mounts.

I asked him a direct question and he said they would not be suitable.

I'll dig out the email he sent tomorrow as he sent it to my work address.

Sorry to hijack the thread chaps, but i'm after some advice. I've been thinking seriously about getting an mx5, but there are so many models, imports etc.

How the heck do you tell what model, mk1/2 etc is it?

Wait a sec, how's the car coming along?

:D

Have you had emails from Phil?

Sooooon ;)

Not much left to do, pictures will go up in due course.

Anyway, last email I got from him was on the third saying it was almost ready to go, and he'd send me an email with my tracking number soon. That was the 3rd of August. I've emailed him today for an update. I do understand the situation, but he's had my money for months so I'm a little cagey now!

For now I'll drool over the pictures . . .

From FCM RE. FM Tops.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for your note.

Here's a wrinkle. Our bump stops will NOT probably work with the FM rear mounts. They give too much bump travel by moving the suspension pickup point upward, so you need to use their bump stop and cut it according to their recommendations.

Got all the info from Phil now so tonight I will be building up the suspension and tomorrow fitting it  Plenty of pictures will be forthcoming

Built the suspension shock/damper assemblies this evening!
